Strawberry Slump

(Toni) #1

Good morning

I’m on day 6 now and all is going well. Don’t feel overly hungry and and down to 2meals and day - breakfast and lunch. Don’t get the 3 o’clock carb binge feelings anymore.

Anyway, yesterday, I thought I’d have a few strawberries and cream. Very yummy and then approx 20 mins later, I couldn’t stay awake! I crashed out on the sofa for 2 hours! Is this due to the sugar in the strawberries?

It’s possible. Best to wait until you’re adapted before introducing berries.

You’re doing very well, so don’t rush things. Fat adaptation takes a while, about six to eight weeks for a lot of people.

Until then, it’s safest to keep carbohydrate intake as low as possible. It’s likely that the sugar in the strawberries was enough to push you past whatever your carbohydrate limit is at this point, so Allie’s suggestion of waiting a bit is a good one. For now, just keep your carbs low, and when you’re fat-adapted, you’ll feel it. At that point, your metabolism will be more flexible, and your carb tolerance may actually increase a bit.

You could have an intolerance to strawberries that you didn’t know about before. When you clean out your system from all the gunk, food intolerances can reveal themselves. For me, it’s basil and green beans!

Not to mention strawberries are one of the most chemical loaded fruits around so even if the fruit itself isn’t an issue, the toxins may be.
