Still Trucking Along But

(Shar) #1

In just a few days I will be heading into week 6. And still, no additional weight loss or inch loss. I check both once a week.

As you may know from my previous posts I’ve mostly do OMAD but if there is a day here and there that I’m hungry more than that, I eat. I do not count calories, don’t cheat, drink my ketoaide every day and keep everything within my limits.

Not giving up but just sitting here wondering to myself when things are gonna start happening. To date I have lost 18lbs and that was mostly in the first two weeks. Same with the inches. Lost several off my waist, thighs, hips, arms and chest, but again, that was mostly in the first two weeks. Not a darn thing has happened since. Otherwise I’m doing fine but still stinks that this seems to be it for me. Not sure when that whoosh will happen, if ever. I started off at 318.8 and through this WOE and other diets can always get down to 300, but then that’s it. No matter how hard I try to get into the 200’s it seems like it’s impossible.

Sucks extra now too cause we just opened our pool for the season and I’m kinda bummed about not being able to hang in and around the pool enjoying a few drinks with my husband like I used to on weekends. That combined with zip happening has me a little bummed but I’m still hanging on.

I know there are hundreds of threads like this and hundreds of the same responses to hang in, let the process work/do it’s thing/etc., two stages, etc, etc, etc…but I just felt like venting anyway.

Week 6 to 8 things started happening for me, then fairly rapidly for a few months.

I can only hope!

I been on it 6 weeks. I do count calories. For the first 4 weeks, I lost nothing. Last week I lost 1 lb. and this week lost 1.6 lbs. I have been in ketosis, my blood ketones r at 1.0 mmol/L. I have been very discouraged and almost gave up, but this morning made me feel a whole lot better.:grin::grin: Keep on trucking… u got this!

Hi Shar, I know it’s frustrating and disheartening!

If you would be willing to try a couple of changes, though, it might make a difference.

I think it’s a mistake to do OMAD, especially at first. And you’re still in “at first” territory. Remember, keto is about healing and regulating hormones, not calories, not scales. I really think you would get better results by eating three meals a day. Source: Jason Fung and Megan Ramos, who both say that OMAD is ok for maintenance, but not for weight loss.

Provide your statistics (height, weight, any test results you have), your macros, and a typical day’s food, and we can help you refine things going forward. Feel free to pm me privately, if you’d rather, but we’ve all been there, promise!

KCKO, you’ve got this!

ETA: And who says you can’t hang out in the pool? You strut your gorgeous self right over and get in that pool, girl!

Hey @Virginia Yeah, I gave those statistics and all that info on a previous thread (you’d prob be better off reading that to get an idea LOL). And I do OMAD because I have been doing so for decades and am just used to that (also explained in that thread). And, as I said, if I get hungry more times in the day I WILL eat. Not like I would deny myself. OMAD is just what my body does/needs naturally most days. And anyway, I did try doing two meals a day whether I was hungry or not, and that did nothing for me either (also mentioned that in that thread).

Yeah, I know I can hang at/in the pool, just bummed I cannot enjoy some adult beverages with my husband while doing so anymore like we used to. THAT is gonna suck!

Anyway, in that other thread, based on my stats/macros/etc. others assured me I was doing everything right and just had to wait it out. So that’s what I’m doing. Even if it does suck that it’s taking so long for anything to happen. Thanks so much for your reply.

:slightly_smiling_face: Venting is good, Shar.

Getting the body back to a certain hormonal balance can take a good while. I’ve never had a fasting insulin test, but I was and am definitely insulin resistant - and I worked on pumping that up for over 50 years. For many of us, this is a major thing that needs correcting, and some months or even years may be involved. Not trying to sound depressing - one way to look at it is that things can always get better. Maybe I deserve a slap for that one.

While insulin resistance is not everybody’s problem, it looms large in obesity and a whole host of other problems for people. I don’t count anything, figure macros for protein or fat, and I’m not great at continuous keto eating, but I am 100% sure of the science behind the influence of our hormones in all of this, and no matter what happens I keep coming back to keeping the carbohydrates really low.

@OldDoug Well, I actually have been seeing an endocrinologist for years and have been tested and I AM IR for sure. Also have PCOS which I know doesn’t help. So yeah, I imagine my body has a lot more healing than some people. Thanks!

Shar, have you added any longer fasts into your routine yet? For me, the first 36 hour fast broke the first stall and adding varied fasting protocols has helped me to keep the scale moving. Agree with everyone that health and healing of our metabolism is more important than the scale, but I also understand your frustration. Anyway, KCKO, and enjoy that pool, even if you have to find a healthy mocktail recipe to sub in at happy hour! :sunny:

(Shar) #10

No. Although I certainly felt I could do so. Just haven’t cause I was told not to worry about that just yet.

So today is the start of week 6 for me. And, since starting this thread 3 days ago, I have finally lost more weight!! Imagine my surprise when I got on the scale today and found that I now weigh 297!!! OMG, UNDER 300…FINALLY! First time in probably 14 years!!! Never thought it would happen. I’m almost afraid to say this in fear of stalling or going up in weight again. But we’ll see. Just gonna keep on, keeping on and see what happens. Just figured I’d update you all. Fingers crossed!!!
