Stevia recommendation - without the 'dextrins

#1

Hi,

As a newbie I ran out and purchased bag of powdered stevia from my local grocery store. I made the incorrect assumption that it was just stevia… but but no. The first ingredient is maltodextrin. As I have become more adapted it has started to bother me - to be honest makes me crave more.

So - specifically - what brand of stevia do you all recommend without fillers. I will switch to liquid stevia for some things, but need good powder for baking. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure there is a good answer for this… I am going liquid with this -

and going swerve for baking. Not sure why the price of swerve has spiked so lately. Up $7 in just over a week. hmmm.

I also read a post about balancing out the bitter taste of of the liquid with sucralose - I think I will try that.

Cheers.

I’ll preface my answer by saying that I am in Australia, but when I was chatting to the owner of my local health food shop and mentioned that I couldn’t stand stevia because of the aftertaste she told me that stevia products in the supermarket are often mixed with other products (sugars and/or chemicals) to keep the cost down. She claimed that pure stevia from a reliable source (meaning her shop I guess) was a different story altogether.

I elected to buy xylitol to try as @carl has mentioned that’s what he reacts well with. Tried it for the first time tonight in Carl’s chocolate mousse recipe and I’m hooked. No need to ever eat real chocolate again as this will satisfy the very rare cravings for me.

Off to try and make a xylitol spicy ginger syrup for my SodaStream now!
