This is annoying. I always assumed all herbal tea was just herbs and nothing weird. But I looked at a couple and they contain stevia leaf! No wonder they tasted a bit sweet to me. I don’t even like my tea sweet…if I’m going to eat any kind of sweetener, it better damn well be intentional and in some rare dessert that I’m REALLY enjoying!
Stevia in tea!
I had the same revelation a few days ago. I was fasting and I tried a tea we had in the cupboard and it tasted sweet. I asked my wife if had sweetener, but she didn’t think so, but within an hour I was STARVING. Ended up breaking my fast.
Stevia does not interfere with glucose levels at all, or our gut microbiome, our bodies can not break it down like we can the aspartame, sucralose, saccharin, etc. However, I think I would be hot if I was not wanting or expecting a sweeter tea and only finding it later on the label. Call the 800 number! They take calls for a reason
That’s not an absolute. It doesn’t affect glucose for “most” people. The other issue is it CAN also trigger an insulin response.
For me personally, artificial sweeteners not only screw with my satiety, they actually trigger hunger.
I discovered my own solution…ginger tea made of fresh ginger is WAY better than any herbal tea out there! As long as you’re looking for something spicy, not fruity. I actually hate eating ginger but love it as a spice!
