Step Count - Observation

This doesn’t really relate to keto but it makes me wonder.

My husband and I both have iPhones. We walked the exact same places together at the exact same time all day today. If anything, I actually walked a little more distance. His step count is almost 1,000 steps more than mine with the same distance traveled. What the heck - I mean, really. Am I just a more efficient walker? My strides have to be longer. Is that why he’s a better calorie burner? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is definitely not the first time we’ve noticed this. We’re the same age and height. My legs are longer. Should I take little tiny steps for maximum exercise benefit? I’m just being silly here but it’s a little disconcerting to know I have to walk like 10% longer to get the same step count.

The step counter I rely on lets me see the steps counted out real time, on the screen. Check to be sure your steps are being counted accurately.

My goal is to do 60 minutes of brisk walking 5-6 days a week (in addition to cardio and lifting). I use a metronome app to set a tempo that I can maintain to the end of the session. It plays over the podcasts and youtube audio I’m listening to on a bluetooth headset. I aim for a heart rate above 50% of age adjusted max heart rate and a slight burn in my glutes.

Out of curiosity, do you both keep your phones on the same place on your body? Very interesting observation, indeed!
