Statins and ALS/MND

(Ben) #1

A friend of mine has Motor Neurone Disease (as it’s known in the UK) and it is truly heartbreaking to witness her deterioration.

So I was horrified to come across this article today which suggests that 10,000 cases a year could be provoked by statin use.

There’s nothing good about statins :frowning:

I understand your heartbreak having lost my grandmother and a friend to this terrible disease. It is cruel beyond belief. For this and many other side effect issues with statins I will continue to refuse them. GPs are too keen to prescribe even if you have a great lipid profile but are in an “at risk” group. They are targeted to prescribe in the UK by the CCG/medicine optimisation teams.
Wishing your friend much strength and courage.
I posted this article under Cholesterol about a week ago.

Thanks for posting this- my hubby’s GP has just tried to put him on statins (even though his cholesterol is only 4…) , he’s having more tests for a potential heart problem. He’s refused them, but having extra research means he can make a properly informed decision.
