Starting to get paranoid...stopped keto and introduced a lot of carbs....urinating a huge amount

#1

it’s been about 10 days since I stopped keto which helped me lose a bunch of weight, I wanted to take a few week break, then get back to keto

I was on keto for 2 months, then took a 1 month break, did it for another month, and now I have just stopped again.

Aftre the first 2 months, going back to carbs was fine and I had no issues. This time, in 10 days I have been peeing a lot, and it’s always coming out as very clear urine

Is this just my body trying to deal with the huge influx in carbs? I am planning on going back to keto in a week or so anyway, but this is still weird to me. Does it make sense to start heavily urinating clear urine after reintroducing (a bit too much) carbs into my diet

I lost 18 pounds in the first 2 months, gained 2 back in the first break, lost another 8, and right now in 10 days ive gained about a pound

i keep thinking I have diabetes or something, but it just wouldnt make sense to me considering the weight loss from keto. I have been peeing small volume with high frequency over the day, with big volume in the morning. It has been going on for about 5 days now.

my water intake is actually less than it was on keto,

You can be diabetic or prediabetic and still lose weight on keto. If you treat keto like a yo yo diet, it will treat you like a yo yo. However, this may not be about keto or carbs at all and could be any number of pre existing or new conditions.

I’m going to suggest making a doctor’s appointment to have your kidney function tested. The kidneys break down creatinine and urobilin which is what makes urine a yellow color. If it’s not doing that, urine can be clear. If urine is clear and you aren’t drinking excess water, you need to get it checked out.

Keto is a lifestyle, it’s not something to dip in and out of.

It’s probably glycogen flux. As you swing back and forth from a lipolytic to lipogenic hormonal
secretion pattern. Not really a huge deal, it’s water weight. You’d have to get to full glycogen recompensation, then stay chronically lipogenic to gain any fat back. Salt intake could also be a factor.

Moving in and out of a Keto lifestyle to a carb based lifestyle is throwing your hormones to the wind, potentially things will balance out soon, potentially your body is being shocked. Think about those changes from a primal perspective, swings like that might occur with a kill (small and frequent) or seasonally (spring to summer to fall to winter, over long duration) in both cases the transition is gradual and suttle change, which is more natural.

If you feel you are at risk then seek a professional for some tests of the kidneys.

In one of the obesity code podcasts, they discussed a patient who had fasted and suffered sever edema after refeeding with carbs. You may not have been fasting, but introducing the carbs after keto could be causing some edema (water retention). The excessive urination could be the result of your body eliminating the excess fluids.

If you incorporate fasting into eating keto then you can stop eating keto for months and not gain weight (if through fasting your reverse the insulin resistance). I love keto, but keto without fasting creates a dependence upon keto. Fasting is key.

I like this statement a lot. I like keto but believe that if you are metabolically healthy, you should be able to slide in and out. Fasting has shown that to me.

I feast following Keto and then fast, balances out to a consistent net loss of weight and inches.

Mark Sisson recently wrote a book on cycling in and out of keto. I have not read it but you may want to look at it.

A doctor’s appointment is always a good idea if you have not been in a while.

No idea about kidney function but diabetes is easy to measure with an at home glucose monitor and test strips. Not sure where you are but the Freestyle Neo sold in the US has the cheapest test strips or use a store brand

How long did it take for the urination to let up after you took your break? I am in a similar situation. Only been off for two days after a month on.

I’m on a keto break myself…after being on keto for over a yr…lost 67lbs, reversed my diabetes and healed my neuropathy in both feet.
I’ve done the fasting protocols also…but, just need a break from it all, still check my glucose and it still is about 100 :slightly_smiling_face:…and no weight gain while off the keto diet hmmmm

good for you

I am more than a year on keto but I think if I eat carbs my blood glucose will spike
