Hi,
I am a 62 yo, 5’10" 198lb guy. Blood sugars at 0400 are 5.0. Started Keto 7 days ago using Keto app to track. Measuring everything I eat…sticking to around 80% fat, 12% protein and 2% or less Carbs. Calorie intake around 1500…water 2 to 2.5 litres
Urine samples taken 0400 and through the day flat at 0.5 - one spike at 1.5 but the woohoo was short lived…
Walk 5 miles a day on treadmill and probably another 5 at work…
I do drink 2 or three red wines in an evening and the odd Jack Daniels …
Starting Ketosis.....not?
I’m no expert, but I think the alcohol could be your problem. I seem to remember reading that the liver will prioritise processing alcohol over anything else and while that is happening, any ketosis will stall. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to give you some extra insight, this was just my first thought.
Seven days is a nanosecond in keto. You may take months to fully adapt. Many will point to alcohol as an inhibitor and they may be right. I have scotch, wine and beer daily and still enjoy LCHF WOE. I think 1500 calories a day is to low for a man. I don’t count or measure anything and aim for <50g carbs daily. I get about 15g to 20g from the wine and beer daily.
The alcohol does take priority in the liver. You might want to cut back for a few weeks and see how it goes.
The alcohol maybe but what about the sugar in the wine? 2-3 glasses depending on the serving size could add up.
I think in general red wine has about 5g carbs per glass. There are so many types and so many variations of oz. Per glass that 5g is really a place holder.
I agree with the previous posts, maybe try reducing the wine for a while and see if that helps?
