Starting Keto RIGHT NOW!

newbies

I have been training my ass off for the past three months. 6 times a week 2 times a day, I am truly disappointed in myself because, I threw away all that hard work and effort because I could not control what I ate. I could be much leaner if I stuck to Keto. Today I looked at myself in the mirror and really decided enough is enough. I want to change my eating habits. I have a past history of a lot of medical problems and I feel like my doctors are just continuing to poison me. Right now, I am on anti inflammatories and TNF inhibitors biologics to control my Psoriatic arthritis. My white blood cell count is off the charts. My immune system is basically fighting itself. I want to be healthy and not depend on these medications. My arthritis has been so bad to the point I couldn’t even walk or open my jaw to chew food. I have read and done much research and I know my body is malnourished. I started taking multi vitamins, fish oils, flax seeds, turmeric and all kinds of supplements for the past couple of years, but I haven’t really noticed a difference. I have conquered the physical part of working out. This is the next battle for me is beating my eating habits. Any help and tips will be much appreciated. I am currently 26 years old, 231 lbs this morning. I would say 30-36% Bmi. I know a friend that has been on keto and even his family started. His mother had arthritis and she said once she started keto her symptoms got better. So I truly believe if I can stick to this diet and make it work maybe it will help me. I’ve already seen so many inspiring stories. So I’m just going to stop making excuses from now on and really try my hardest to stick to it this time around. Wish me luck.

I think, with health issues, many have to hit their point, much like an alcoholic has to hit bottom, before it finally gets through. I know I did. The support and advice you will find here is wonderful! So welcome

Welcome! You’ve definitely come to the right place! I worked in rheumatology for many years, so I understand what you’re saying about psoriatic arthritis and the meds used to treat the disease. It’s a systemic disease with inflammation as a major component, and imo, keto is sure to help. There are no guarantees in life but I don’t think you’d have anything to lose by going keto and, in fact, I think it could help a lot with inflammation, weight loss and lowering bf. Glad you found us!

don’t be surprised, disappointed, or beat yourself up if you naturally cut back on your training.
you probably won’t want or need 6x2/days
listen to your body…again

Welcome! Much luck to you. I hope keto helps. I know what it did for me but we are all individuals. I can say without a doubt my joints feel SO much better. Keto and of course losing the weight help me tons. I’m officially 8lbs until my goal weight and I feel like a kid again!

There’s a discussion about arthritis here:

I am sure keto will help you enormously. Welcome and great to have you on board. I look forward very much to hearing about your progress.

I think high does omega 3 is great - I use for depression. I take about 1.5mg of EPA a day so around 9 tablets!

Turmeric is fabulous too but I don’t rate the supplements. It is more effective as powder. Make your own paste with black pepper and coconut oil to optimise bio availability. See YouTube for how to make the paste, it is dead easy. You basically just heat powder and water (plus pepper and oil) down to a paste.

Good luck.

Hi Kiri,

Well done on the 3 months of hard work in the gym. Eating this way is going to super-charge all your hard efforts. Just remember it’s a bumpy ride until you’re fully fat-adapted so be kind to yourself until you get to that point, and when you do, it all becomes a whole lot easier.

In my own experience I’ve found that sipping on exogenous ketones have really helped me resist the carb cravings (I have Keto CaNa in the morning and KetoForce through-out the day).

This is my second time around and I was really struggling to be consistent and to stay motivated in the first 4 weeks and barely a few days would go by without at least one extreme carb craving (that I gave in to), and would constantly frustrate myself. Im now into week 7 and I think I’m finally fat adapted because I’m no longer having the extreme carb cravings and I can go for longer periods of time without food. I’m not 100% certain if they do in fact speed up the fat adaptation process or if they are just helping with the carb cravings but I’m finally back in the zone and I’m certain this was my secret weapon.

Thought I’d share that just in case you need a helping hand along the way

All the best!

Keto does help me with the removal of sore joints. If I eat something too sweet, I will feel it in my bones and joints the next day.

Assume you mean resistance training?

Don’t know what the current consensus is on frequency on weights training, and would love to hear from the professionally qualified amongst us, but you might be running the risk of overtraining?

Believe that the body makes it gains during times of recovery, however you don’t sound like you’re getting much down time.

Back in my gym junkie days, remember reading Heavy Duty by Mike Mentzer, where he recommended much less reps, sets and more rest days compared to the established thinking of the day.

Again, would love to hear from others more qualified.

So would eating a teaspoon of coconut oil or MCT oil.

Exogenous ketones are overpriced and the companies who sell it are MLM scammers.

Wow looking at the Keto CaNa and the KetoForce I am sorry to say but it is a total rip off. Like @Brenda had said you can have coconut oil or MCT oil. This KetoForce is $60 dollars for 16 ounces of what I think is just basically MCT oil and lite salt (which is sodium and potassium). I am not directing this at anyone but the company trying to rip people off. I purchased my MCT oil at Pipingrock here http://www.pipingrock.com/?rwcode=BRC585 (supposed to be a 10 dollar off first purchase). It was a 64oz bottle of MCT oil for $25 with like $3 shipping.

Better yet just go with straight up coconut oil. MCT oil is a marketing ploy to sell what’s left over after they strip out the good stuff in manufacturing (lauric acid).

I’ve been doing body building style weight lifting. I’m training back to back with my friend his competition is coming up soon so we are cutting together. His progress motivates me and he’s really has changed my life mentally, physically, and spiritualIy. I know it’s hard but I’ve been in a wheelchair and bed ridden for the past year. So I’m doing all I can while I still have my legs! We don’t usually train like this we are only doing this because competition is coming up.

(Kiri Chhun) #18

Yes I have been!

Then you’re all set! Lol

Going to ask, is your friend on anabolics? Or test? Cause honestly unless you are that regimen of training is really for the genetically gifted.

It’s easier to start from zero and jump to five rather than zero to a hundred. This allows for metabolic healing, joint health and adaptation. Sure you can adapt to that intensity but once you adapt then what? You have to make it harder, it’s already super hard. I see many people burn out because they start too hard too fast.

Keto has shown great improvement for my inflammation. My relationship with food has gotten better (though artificial sweeteners tend to hurt and give huge cravings). I’ve found for me to just eat whole food and not try to replace treats with keto treats makes things easier quicker and I see the benefits much faster.

Just my two cents.
