Hi,

To those who have or had chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), which advice would you give to somebody like me who is just about to start the keto diet?
What helped you to get going? Any specific pitfalls or particular things I should watch out for?
How can I avoid the keto flu being chronically fatigue?

Thank you all for your valuable input!

Hi Annett,

I’m only in my fourth week of keto, but I’m someone who struggles with fatigue due to several autoimmune disorders. I can tell you that I have sooo much more energy than before going keto. The only time I struggled with fatigue was during and right after keto flu. I realized I wasn’t adding enough electrolytes. I drink 2-3 electrolyte drinks a day and feel great. Good luck!

Hi Kristen,

Thanks for your feedback. Very helpful to know that electrolytes are that important, especially during the initial phase.

It may get difficult before it gets better.

Do not let the difficulties discourage you.

be persistent and search the forum for whatever obstacle you may face.

It took me about 3 months on Keto before I got my energy back. I wasn’t diagnosed with CFS, mostly depression, boredom, lack of inspiration. And some pain with movement.
I never got Keto flu, but I had been cutting back on white stuff for months before I went Keto, so I was accustomed to living without bread and sugar, but not without fruit and milk.
Like Omar said, it may get worse before you feel good results.

Omar,

Thank you for your encouraging words! I’ve learned one thing during my recovery from CFS: Be patient and never get discouraged!
But, I draw my motivation from people like you!

Diana,

Thank you so much for your feedback. That is good to know that it can take a while to show effect. On the other hand, I’m not surprised since everything seems to take longer to show positive results when you suffer from CFS, and dips in energy and mood are pretty much calculated in.

Carnivore. For the persistent symptoms that regular keto is not clearing up - tons of people report that eating a diet of only meat and water for 30 days alleviates symptoms when nothing else would. Then, re-introducing foods back one at a time to test for sensitivities.

Thank you for that info. I suffer from terrible CFS and am 32 days into keto. I’m more exhausted than ever but determined to keep going out of desperation.

Tiny,

Just keep going. I’ve just gone through the same exhaustion etc. I’m into Keto for 52 days and finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. After 4 weeks, I went through a phase of extreme exhaustion. At the same time, I ate and ate and ate. My body literally couldn’t get enough fat and protein.

So, don’t get discouraged. Remember that our bodies need to heal, repair and rebuilt a lot of things that have been wrong to begin with. This takes time and patience.

I’ve learned one thing during my healing journey: It always gets worse before it gets better.
