I’m currently 106kgs, according to most calculators I need to be about 65kg.

Tbh I can’t remember a time in my life that I’ve been 65kg.

Im currently 33 and hoping this works for me.

Also hope to become part of this community - but one a step at a time I guess
BTW - Im new here if you didn’t guess already

PS - I have come across this fried fish recipe I think you guys might like. (spicy)

Looks good! Having a little over a week to get ready keep looking up recipes that you think you’ll like and start re-tooling your kitchen, one of the harder things at first is just not having the right ingredients. Make it enjoyable and not a “diet”. Also depending on your home/work situation start figuring out of you need to prep meals, or if eating out will work for you as well. Many people that screw stuff up food wise is because in a pinch they don’t know where to go to get food that won’t derail you.

This is very helpful and i look forward to sharing success stories one day. i’m going to print out the month of feb (calendar format) and start plotting my meal plans and exercise plans. Thank you for the interest and positive comment

Welcome and good luck! I really enjoy the ketoconnect couple on YouTube. They’re a great place to start

(Marsh Moodley) #7

Thank you Aunt Jane, i’m going to check them out now

(Aileen) #8

Good luck. I started Sept 1st. One thing I wish I had done was measurements of my hips, waist and chest. On weeks when the scale didn’t move it would have been encouraging to see other victories.

Welcome here Marsh!

Most definitely Aileen. I also wish I had taken monthly progress pictures for those tough moments when you think it’s not working. Wear the same clothes so you see the difference others do. Stuff is always changing even without scale movement. Always be aware of changes in how old clothes fit getting looser as you go.

I wish you all the best Marsh, you’ve got this and I think you’ll be doing fine. Just trust the process, and don’t work out too much during your adaptation phase. That can work against you and activity is encouraged not heavy workouts. Daily long walks are better for now. :cowboy_hat_face:

Welcome to the forum and this way of life.

(Heather McElduff) #11

Welcome! I dabbled with Keto last year, but struggled to make it a true lifestyle. This year, I have been strict Keto since January 6th and am loving it! I feel amazing already and am noticing changes in how my clothes fit. I have found so much motivation and support in this forum, I can’t imagine not continuing!

(Marsh Moodley) #12

Good tip thank you

Hi Marsh,

Welcome to keto! i wish i had found the keto WOE at 33. I started at 61. in 22 months I have lost 79 lbs. My advise would be to keep it simple at first and make sure you keep your electrolytes in balance. Lots of times the scale won’t move…but your body is changing. Good luck and everyone here is great when you need anything!

(Marsh Moodley) #14

Thank you David, so far we have done our measurements (my husband and i are doing this together), and its quite atrocious, i will take your advise on the workouts during adaptation phase (i will learn more about this today). We take a long hike once a month and some light sparring twice a week, i think it would be a good idea to hold off on adding 2 days of weight training for now.

(Marsh Moodley) #15

Thank you Polly im looking forward to this. Having this forum will definitely help me stay on track.

(Marsh Moodley) #16

Heather, this message means alot, and gives me something to look forward to.

79lbs in 22months is very impressive. if i must be honest i think i would be happy at a weight of 85kg so thats like 20kgs away …

Thank you so much for the support and kind words Kathy.

I’m actually thinking of getting some electrolytes for this weekends’ hike as during my first hike my hands started swelling

Resistance training is good and once a week is fine. Lifting very heavy to the point of muscle failure. Probably a 20 workout once a week. Lots of people here do that. Cardio isn’t good during adaptation. The hike and sparring sounds great. Movement is important. Some people starting out make the mistake of hitting the gym five days a week. That and cardio will just make you hungrier, create lots of cortisol and stall you. Save that kind of activity till you’re closer to your goal weight is what most advise. It’s awesome your husband is on board. That makes it easier and you support each other’s efforts. Lots of people have a husband or wife not on board and if you are used to bonding over comfort foods and eating watching TV at night well that can be a problem if the other person is whispering “come on, you can have some ice cream with me!!!” :fearful:

Looking forward to getting started, i’m using this last week to get my mind right. My husbands mind has been in the right place for months, i just never recovered from the holidays yet. Im currently successfully observing a 16/8 int. fast which is keeping me stable i just need to monitor my carbs, cos that’s my Kr.

Welcome Marsh and hubby.

The exciting thing about setting a start date is that you can start right away, as in doing the preparation things.

I have enjoyed the responses that your topic has encouraged out of respondents.

One thing that you may like to practice is sipping on some soup made with stock cubes (I think also called bullion cubes). It is a pleasant way to elegantly weave around the ill effects of electrolyte changes in the first adaptation stages. A cup of yummy, salty stock beverage in the afternoon is good training that will carry you past the keto flu. It’s usually that 2pm time when it can be most effective. But also after dinner, if there are any indications of leg cramps at night.
