Is it normal to stop losing after only a month? I know stalls happen and can last a while. I lost 12 lbs in about a month and experienced some gains and losses during that time. I’ve been at it only about 6 weeks now but haven’t lost anything for 2 weeks. I am seeing the benefits of this woe. I’m just curious if it’s normal to kind of stall this early in. My husband is still continuously losing and has lost 24 lb in 6 weeks. We are primarily eating the same food and I know weight loss is different for everyone but I’m just wondering if I should try something 2 kick out of the stall or if this is really even considered a stall at all.
Stall after 4 weeks
8 weeks today. Pretty much stalled at 8lbs. I’ve been told one can’t actually stall so soon. I follow Page 4 to a “T” without ANY cheating. Hubby continues to out lose me by double.
I’ll just keep calm and keto on. If I don’t lose anything in the next month, I’ll try something different. At 4 weeks, I was truly not ready for fasting.
Whoever told you that you can’t stall before 8 weeks doesn’t understand the “fact” that every one of us have a distinct physiology and life experience. This statement is just not true. Stalls can happen at any point in time depending on a vast number of variables. Follow the fundamentals and the healing will continue and the weight will come off as your body sees fit. You can implement certain curveballs, such as EF, IF, etc, if you are comfortable doing so. It could be as simple as just not eating after 6 pm until the next morning. Once you are fat adapted and able to comfortably narrow your eating window, you could extend the fast from 6 pm to 12 pm or even longer. Notice I’m emphasizing “comfortable “. Eat when you’re hungry. Don’t eat if you’re not.
I wonder what you are eating in the average day : how much fat grams, protein, carbs. If you are eating a ton of fat then your body will be using what’s in your belly for fuel as opposed to body fat. As @That_Fat_Guy says, it could also be dairy. It really hangs up some people.
Just keep calm and keto on! Love that. I’ve had to do this for a month! Started Keto late August and stuck at 7lbs lost and my husband has almost doubled mine! I’m not even hungry, don’t cheat, and am on a 16/8 fasting schedule. I drink PLENTY of fresh lemon water, hormones are under control, BP is better than ever. 120/73 just now. I think I need someone to set me up with a meal plan! Maybe I’ll lower dairy intake in the meantime. Any suggestions?
It’s called the PISS period
Post Induction Stall Syndrome
Anyone who has actually researched Keto prior to starting would know to completely expect this, but no, most don’t. They just come here and whine they’ve stalled.
There are many internal processes at play that need to be repaired, including metabolic issues, before weight loss will begin. You need to be patient and just steam on through
I was being cheeky
And look how far you have come since then!
When in doubt — fast. A good 36-hour, water-only fast will get you back to losing. Not that difficult if you time the start so as to be sleeping through the hardest times (18-24 hours for example).
I stalled under the supervision of an obesity specialist and keto-practicing physician. You would have thought he would have told me.
I found your comment a little demeaning. Most of us newbies are here to ask questions and learn. Sometimes people just want a little community and commiserating.
I was talking to somebody else, so I apologise if you found that demeaning. We are all friends here. And we were all newbies at one point too. No malice intended at all.
But we do get many newbies here, who do not bother researching the basics, which can be tiring for us, as much as we like to help people, they also need to help themselves.
By the way, I broke my “perfect streak” of following Page 4 today. I had a piece of keto cake. Not worth it. Bacon tastes much better now.
Thanks for your response. The OP was asking about her stall. I believe you didn’t mean to imply it, but no one wants to hear that they’re a non-researching whiner when they ask a question.
Thanks for all the responses! I’ve done SO much research… especially before starting. It’s just seems like there’s so many diff beliefs of what’s right and wrong… what to do and not to do… what is what isn’t ect. Im soaking it all in. I’m totally aware that stalls happen. I do IF 18-6. I started with IF because I already sort of ate that way before starting keto. I really just had to cut out snacking late. I typically ate dinner around 6 or 7 and would eat a snack later in the evening and then don’t really get to eat at work till around noon or 1 so I basically stopped snacking late. I don’t count macros because of how my eating schedule is. Maybe I should buckle down on that. I possibly may not be eating enough. I also may need to watch my dairy. I just love it tho! The weight was coming off nicely and then just haulted… meanwhile hubby is eating what I make him basically… drinks beers on bowling night and drops like crazy lol and he has way less to lose than me. I will keep on trucking along. I really just wasn’t sure if after 2 weeks of not losing if it was even considered a stall. I also wasn’t thinking it would happen so soon. I’ve never heard of PISS . Guess I never came across that in my research . Lots of good input here. Appreciate it.
It would be a good idea, especially if you have hit a stall. You may be ingesting hidden carbs in food items and that may contribute.
Unfortunately Men lose weight faster than us!
Upwards of 6 weeks can be considered a stall.
Yeah, I used to skip dinner a lot. Would feast on carbs throughout the day, and just wasn’t hungry in the evening. Start with three solid meals a day. Skipping dinner on carbs just messed up my stomach, and the weight did not come off. Just keep carbs under 20 - trust me on this. At different times in your keto journey, you may lose your appetite or develop one. At first I had to force myself to eat. At three months I was ravenous. It was only at five months that I could even contemplate pushing breakfast up by a few hours. I’m at seven months now, and, while I hit my goal weight at four months, am still tweaking things. I test every few days to make sure I am in ketosis, and I watch my blood glucose carefully, to see how certain foods affect me. I still need three meals a day (fasting is out of the question). But my blood levels are perfect, and I am at goal weight, so keto is definitely working for me.
There we go…

If you’re not tracking, you’re guessing.
We (husband and I) are very simple keto people. I know I stalled when I ate too many fats. After managing the fat intake, my body began to burn more. We both lead active lifestyles. I don’t believe ketosis works for sedentary people and I personally think it’s in our best interests to incorporate adequate exercise in every diet/lifestyle. We do believe in fasting also and one meal a day.
My paraplegic mate who has lost 40kg on keto would probably disagree with this assessment, I suspect.
Yeah I’d think it would be the ideal diet - muscle sparing and you’re not packing away too much liver glycogen that you can’t hope to use. Good on your mate.
