Stall after 4 weeks

I didn’t mean for my comment to be taken out of context. I’m sure it works for everyone in some way. But I personally don’t think it’s ideal to live without exercise, no matter what lifestyle or foods chosen. I think a lot of people seem to expect miracles without working other parts of their bodies or attempting to. I don’t think that’s the right way to live but that’s just me. I’m musing outloud here and this isn’t aimed at anyone’s post above. Good for your friend for losing weight - to whomever responded above.

80% weightloss is diet related. I do agree that exercise can also be important. But to say sedentary people don’t benefit is confusing to me. I’ve lost 50lbs in 5 months being quite sedentary ( I have a disorder where I can’t exercise other than walking as I could pass out). My dad on 24/7 oxygen is also quite sedentary and he’s lost weight and cut his blood pressure medicine, only takes 1/4 of what he used to. Now I’m not disputing exercise isn’t important because for sure it is, but for people who can’t, ketogenic diet can still be super beneficial!

It’s a good thing I didn’t do that, then.

You said… you don’t believe ketosis works for some people, then you have said that you are sure it works for everyone in some way, yet you don’t believe it’s ideal to live without exercise. Those are two completely different statements.
We are born into a state of ketosis, ANYONE can reach ketosis within a week, sedentary or not. Just because you believe that no one should live without exercise, doesn’t mean that people can’t reach ketosis.

Exercise is mainly for cardiovascular health. And 80-90% of weight loss is attributed to diet. And there is no point for exercise when you aren’t healthy on the inside.

  • Signed by a sedentary office worker who has lost 20kg on Keto, 18kg of that without exercise.

Especially the last three months or so…

I’m not even going to bother re-hashing that one…

Our 42nd podcast episode which featured a buddy of mine @Barn who is parapeligic and lost a bunch of weight and reversed his diabetes.

So some people have been able to get some advantage out of a ketogenic diet while being sedentary.

I agree. I found that when I lost the weight I wanted to move more functionally. So the order of causality may be;

Keto -> Health -> Exercise

or it could be

Keto -> Exercise -> Health

I don’t care, I like exercising since I managed to get my insulin low enough that I can use fat for energy and all of a sudden I discovered I had a LOT of energy.

I wish my paraplegic mate could exercise more and I have no doubt he would be much more metabolically adaptable if he could put on more muscle - and maybe he could be more lower carb than keto. But as long as he can’t exercise I believe a ketogenic diet is likely the best for him.

Indeed they have. I know so many, too many, obese people who fear what they believe to be the “necessary” exercise regimen that attends a weight-loss regimen. It hurts doing CrossFit when you 80+ pounds overweight. Been there, pained that.

Dr. Westman helped a paralyzed woman lose 50 pounds on a low-carb diet.

Cheers to this brave patient, Dr. Westman, and the 2KD for breaking stale failed notions about how to lose weight.
