Spin class- how often?

(Anna Hermsdorfer) #1

I have recently discovered the joys of spin class as something I can finally do that does not aggravate all my running injuries. My question is, how much is too much when it comes to this type of workout? I don’t want to overdo it, but sometimes I do want to go 5 days a week because I just plain enjoy it.

How often do you spin?

There is no one answer. You have to see if going that often keeps you feeling great and you continue to see the results you’re wanting. Some have higher cortisol levels that increase with rigorous exercise and it will cause them to not be able to loss weight. I exercise almost everyday and I try to listen to my body in deciding how hard to hit it.

If you’re doing it because you enjoy it, I don’t think there is too much, so long as you work up to levels. I mean, people on Keto could and have trained for things like Iron Man and other high endurance events.

If you were doing it to speed up weight loss, that’s another thing altogether.

Never. I jog four times a week, weights, twice a week. My wife loves spin class and takes them whenever they’re available, and depending on the instructor. She begs me to join her, but chocolate and vanilla, or should I say, butter or coconut oil? As @Anniegirl9 says do it for fun, not for weight loss or maintenance.

Thank you all! That all makes a lot of sense. I have no illusions about the effect of cardio on weight loss; I do it for the other health benefits. Well that, and it gets me out of the house during the evening when I’m most prone to snacking.

I guess I’ll just have to watch and see how things go. I’d actually planned on going yesterday but my knees kept me home resting, so at least now I know that’s one thing that’ll keep me from overdoing it.
