So, Who Have You Converted To Keto?

(Warren) #21

I have not converted anybody yet but I have certainly got people asking questions. Especially when I (just turned 47) whacked out 12 chin ups in front of a heap of friends when their teenage boys were exercising in the park. The teenage boys were certainly interested as well.

2 friends, and my boyfriend.the boyf is the best story. When I met him 18 months ago, he was 130 kg / 286lbs. I didnt even consider him for a partner. But after being friends for a while I just fell completely in love with him.
This year he went keto and is doing IF. Now he’s 105kg/230lbs and shrinking!
Im VERY happy! …and so is he!

Just me. Mom thinks it’d great for me but said she couldnt give up ice-cream and bread. Everyone else doesn’t talk about it anymore after standing my ground. They know now that I really really don’t want some cake

The wife, definitely. She is doing keto with me and is doing a couple of days of fat fast as well. Good results so far.

My sister asked for info on Keto because a guy she knew (no idea who…she lives 2 states away) was “inspired by my weight loss”. You never know!

I told my mother about the diet. She has been Type 2 for a very long time and was suspecting that her liver was about to give out. She started eating low carb, high fat and the next time she went into the doctor, he took her off all her liver medications and decreased her insulin. Go mom!

Now I’m working on my hubby. He is on a statin and still sometimes feels like he should stick to the old dietary guidelines. He is slowly coming around. Anyone know any good videos on youtube or other social media to share with him that explain what happens with statins for cholesterol?

Dr. David Diamond has several videos on YouTube about cholesterol, statins, and keto. He is a neurologist and got sucked into keto when his doctor tried to prescribe a statin for him, and so he looked around for a better way to heal.

EXCELLENT video by David Diamond on the Demonization and Deception of Cholesterol Research. Thank you for the info and glad I sat through the entirety.

Thus far, one (perhaps two) physician professors, a facilities manager, one classmate, and I may or may not have pointed several patients towards the podcast, but since I’m on rotations, I don’t get to follow up with them.

Careful that they don’t kick you out of med school, you heretic, you! :bacon:

Other than deepening my conversion at every opportunity, my results have affected a former ESL student of mine, who is now a university student where I teach writing. He is from Saudi Arabia, is now a keto devoté in extremis, and has quasi-converted his mom when she was here to visit this summer. He will cheerfully chat a blue streak about keto if asked what he’s doing to look so good. He has lost right at 80 pounds. We get together and cook, research keto cooking, and love to have civilian types over for dinner to see whether they can figure out that there’s something “different” about our food. We haven’t been busted yet.

I can’t take full credit, but my own keto experience has caused multiple relatives to either start, re-start, or be more strict at their own keto.

“Keto Mindfulness” … I Love It!

And I believe I am making headway with my difficult friends. At our annual Xmas party, one brought lettuce wrapped “sandwiches” just for me and I noticed another, very tight lipped friend, kicking the bread to the side of her plate! I’m totally counting these as NSV’s!

My mum. No more IBS symptoms for her. Nearly converted my brother. Few more weeks and he’ll be mine.

:smiling_imp: K.O.!

No one so far, but I try not to talk about it too much. The flouride stare kicks in when you mention cutting out sugar and carbs.

Although, I did consider it a good sign when my 76 year old Mom asked me what she should be eating after her last hospital stay (where I questioned the nurse about the wisdom of what they were feeding her ).
I cook lots of bacon and country sausage here and send it home with Mom whenever she wants.

And, even bigger victory, I got my picky eater kid LOVING bacon. He’s also now eating eggs and likes good bratwurst. This is the kid who only wanted chicken nuggets (which I now refuse to buy).

I started with a weight of 123Kgs and I am down to 95 right now. Seeing me lose weight so quickly was supposedly a big motivation for a lot of people around me. My sister and my brother (both of them were obese) started this and are following it.

However, the biggest success is in my office where at least 10 people (I have lost count now) have started this and are getting significant results. My weight loss story has been published in our office’s yearbook of 2017 under the title “biggest accomplishments”.

My biggest inspiration to date is the 2 Keto Dudes podcast by @richard and @carl. One of my programmer friends (I am a programmer too) introduced me to this podcast, since we were both avid listeners of carl’s other podcast, dotnetrocks.

And one more thing, I am from Pakistan so my keto recipes and way of eating is actually very different, I dont eat pork/bacon because of religious reasons. Anybody who wants to get some help about desi keto can surely contact me  I also run a localized facebook group giving keto advice and recipes.

When I get a chance I try to mention the word keto or low carb or avoiding grain, but otherwise I don’t try to convert people anymore. I have more problem of my own than going around and telling other people how to live and it’s something annoying when my family members do to me.

Usually the conversation start when someone mentioned I look young for my age. Then I would say I eat low carb, a lot of fat, avoid grain and vegetable oils.

Though I did manage to teach a nurse a bit about this topic and give her some resources.

Very cool!

My husband 3 weeks into my journey, then my cousin a few weeks later. Since then 2 people at my church, at least 5 close friends and now they are all starting to influence friends as well…

Of course I’m not sure how much I influenced the guy who saw my passport when traveling, the lady at the office when I got a new drivers licence etc…they asked why I looked so different…
