So it's been a month. Fat adapted?

I don’t get hangry anymore. That started after a week.
I don’t get sick if I’m hungry and don’t eat. In fact September 1st I think (date) I did a 22 hour fast without meaning to. For the first 18 hours I simply wasn’t hungry. The next 4 I was working and couldn’t eat. I finally ate 4oz beef jerky and went to bed after work.
I haven’t been perfect. I’ve had 4 days of at least 100g of carbs usually about a week apart.
Sunday I had a donut a piece of cake and a serving of chips. Breakfast lunch and dinner. Oh and half of a baby ruth. I realized I wasn’t enjoying it so I stopped eating it. Oops.I really meant to only have the donut.

Following all high carb days I’ve reentered Ketosis quickly.

I’ve been somewhat lazy keto I think. I range from 10 to 50 carbs a day. Today I had 40g.

I am still registering keto on urine strips.

I have more energy too. I actually ran. Going up and down stairs is easier too.

I haven’t mentioned sleep for reasons that would take several paragraphs to explain. This post is pretty long already😊

Looking back I had a fairly low carb count prior to keto from just trying to eat healthier. I’d guess most days at 100-200g of carbs.

Given all this info could I be fat adapted or almost fat adapted already.

The ketostix only registers wasted ketones, which you are peeing out via your urine, it does not give an actual indication of ketosis. They are for diabetics to confirm ketoacidosis, or the risk of it anyway.

How long have you been doing Keto?
If you can fast that long and not feel hungry, I would say you are well on your way to adaption. Congrats

Regarding the keto strips I only use them to see if I’m still producing ketones. I’ve been keto for a month and my 22 hour fast was 2 weeks ago.

(Running from stupidity) #4

They don’t do that, though, they just show if you’re spilling them.

(Cynthia Anderson) #5

Don’t I have to be producing them to spill them?

(Cynthia Anderson) #6

I don’t want to go down the urine stick rabbit hole okay. I know they have severe limitations.

Based on everything else in my original post could I be fat adapted or almost fat adapted already.

(Running from stupidity) #7

You do indeed, but if you’re using them all up then they won’t be spilled.

Yes. And loads of people keep producing them long after they are fat adapted. I’m a year and a half in and still have readings of 4 mmol regularly. I’m very happy I do too as it’s a cheap easy way for me to gauge if I’ve over carbed some days.

That’s what I use them for too you just put it better. Do you think I’m fat adapted already or is a month too soon especially considering my cheats.
PS when I started I was in ketosis the next day and even with my heavy cheats I’m back to ketisis in as little as 12 hours and never more than 24.

Anyone else?

Just saw this thread. All the deleted posts, I feel like I missed something good.

To answer your question, if you’ve been relatively low carb for a long time; yes, it’s possible you got to fat adaptation quicker than most do.

Popping in and out of ketosis happens very quickly, and measuring ketones after high carbs can happen if you HAD been producing them but suddenly didn’t need them because glucose became available.

I don’t know what your stats or goals are, but if you’re relatively metabolically healthy, slipping in and out of ketosis is perfectly normal. Kids, who even on the SAD diet haven’t had enough time to totally fuck up their metabolism, are constantly going back and forth.

Many people that have adjusted to being in ketosis can handle 100 grams of carbs a day without being knocked out.
