I am looking for some ideas for snacking at work.I am also on the road with work some days. I prefer snacks with no Carbs or very low. I know there are those little Bacel cheeses but I think are 5g protein and 6 g fats, but looking for some other ideas . trying to stay away from processed cold cuts to wrap around cheese. I was at the store and saw they sold a couple fat bombs and looked good but were really small and they were 2.9 grams of carbs each and were very small, a little worried bout getting all my fats
Snacking questions
Bacon!! I cook up a bunch of bacon at a time and eat it cold. Also, hard boiled eggs, nuts, cheeses.
You’re going to get several replies telling you not to snack. Ideally you will get to a place where you don’t need to snack, but if you’re not fat adapted yet, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Plain pork rinds, macadamia nuts, dukes sausages (min carbs), green Olives. People’s Choice zero carb beef jerky.
Thanks for the ideas . I thought of eggs but can be stinky at work but I will at home . Bought pork rinds Wednesday night and they were really bad . Will
Keep trying your other ideas
Thank you
I have found hot “flavored” pork rinds much better. You can make a quick dip pair with them. You can also stuff half an avocado with homemade or store bought dip. I also enjoy a high quality Pâté with cheese.
My favorite jerky is route 66 brand; I prefer the dry thin New Mexico style. No sugar in it! Walnuts, pork rinds (spicy, Old Dutch is my fav). Summer sausage, use sour cream as a dip. Sardines. Deli turkeys slices. No carb pickles, Del Monte canned spinach, canned artichokes, green salad with home made Greek style vinaigrette.
If you like peanut butter, mix 2 Tbs with 4 Tbs softened cream cheese. Make into 12 balls and roll them in cocoa powder. Super fast and @1g carb per ball. 4.7 g fat and 1.3 g protein. Cream cheese dips with celery sticks or on cucumbers, lots of fat, low in carbs.
I sometimes keep a jar of unsweetened peanut butter in my desk. The local whole foods store has machines that grind peanuts and almonds in whatever quantity you desire. I know you said not to mention cold cuts, but prosciutto and pepperoni are my faves. Also, I enjoy buttered Brie cheese as a snack.
Lastly, unsweetened chocolate, if you can manage it, is also a good thing to keep in your desk. I like Baker’s, which is tasty and cheap.
I love cold cuts and salami but thought too high in protein . Some of the store bought stuff is not availble in Canada . USA has much better selections
As long as you are keeping carbohydrate low, and listening to your body, you won’t overdose on protein. In a low-carb environment, too much protein is hardly an issue. Don’t stuff yourself, just eat until you are no longer hungry. Once you’ve been keto for a month or so, you are likely to be surprised by what happens to your appetite.
Thanks Paul . You read so much and watch videos and your brain tells you things that may not be right
Thanks everyone
Not at all—you probably remember it correctly, and it was the best information available at the time it was published. It’s just that since that was published, we’ve learned more, and in a changing field there’s always going to be outdated information still floating around. Science!
I too have at times been able to enjoy baker’s chocolate. It helps to add a couple walnuts which gives kind of a brownie taste. I wash it down with coffee (black).
I’m in Canada too.
FYI: Superstore (President’s Choice brand) and Costco (Cappola brand, made by Maple Leaf) both have Prosciutto. The only ingredients are pork and salt, and the slices are paper thin. So you can use it as a wrap without worrying about a lot of chemicals or hidden carbs.
I took prosciutto rollups with herbed goat cheese, mayo, and garlic to a potluck, and they were a hit. For work you could skip the garlic.
You don’t need premade fat bombs. I enjoy plain cream cheese sometimes. I try to stay away from nuts, but that’s me.
It’s not so hard to eliminate snacks without suffering. I eat twice a day, usually lunch and dinner, no snacks. This morning at work hunger was interfering with my work, I’m employed and owe my employer my undivided attention. Instead of a snack I ate all the food planned for lunch. That filled me up, no problem waiting for dinner.
It’s more important to me how many times I eat than exactly when. So twice a day 6 days a week, no eating one day a week. That’s a total of 12 times a week. Preserving that is more important to me than sticking to arbitrary times.
I used to love peanut butter . Didn’t eat it a lot but liked it on toast and loved peanut butter cups ( only chocolate bar) I have bought two different peanut butters that are just peanut and maybe salt and both are horrible . I guess I was enjoying the soybean oil. Is there any rhatbhave a real Kraft or jiffy taste. I have tried the almonds one and it is even worse
