Does anyone have any tips for not snacking after fasting? I feel like when i fast, after i have my lunch, i just want to eat all the food. Like once i start, it’s a little hard to stop eating. I tried chewing mint gum today after my lunch & that seems to help. Maybe it’s due to working out fasted then eating? is it mental at that point? I’m not really hungry anymore but i feel like snacking. I would eat but i hate blowing all my macros on mid-day food and having to be super careful about what i have for dinner. Or should that be how it goes? Help
Snacking after fast?
Try a cup of tea. Green tea works especially well for me when I want to eat.
@andesite thats a good idea! I can’t do green tea on an empty stomach (makes me feel nauseous), but i didn’t think about having it after eating.
Do you mean after an intermittent fast (since the night before?) or a longer fast?
It can be challenging in either case, but if you’re not hungry anymore then you can try to get clear about what you’re hoping to get from the additional eating (comfort? fun? a sense of indulgence after the fasted workout? reward?) Those are all fine, but is there some way to meet those needs that doesn’t involve food?
@Madeleine yes, 16-18 hour fasts, after dinner until about 2pm the next day. maybe reward? it almost seems like just from missing food & eating itself. I know thats not the healthiest though. I’ve been trying to get into more of a mindset of food being medicinal, and since i fast & reap the benefits from that, i want to continue on the same path & not ‘spoil’ what i accomplished during my fast. I really try not to eat unless i’m hungry. I work a desk job, & maybe thats where some of this comes from-boredom?
Sometime I make a deal with myself that I’ll stick with something for a certain amount of time - say 3 weeks, or two months- even if I have to force it a bit at the beginning, just to see if I can get myself so used to it that it feels normal. I’m going to try that in Sept and October with OMAD (well, actually with 6 meals/ week). Right now the thought makes me slightly panicky but I’m hoping to settle into it and let it become the new norm, and then evaluate to see how it’s actually working.
Eating for boredom is very common but not really what our bodies need! Maybe push through for now (without snacking) but just acknowledge the boredom and try to address it more directly?
I often have to remind myself that food is many wonderful things but it’s not entertainment.
@Madeleine i am going to try that! I might bulk up my lunch just a tad with some fat so maybe it will satisfy me a little longer & i’m going to try not snacking this whole week & only have lunch & dinner! We’ll see how this goes!! Haha
Should i stay away from all sweeteners to see if it helps, or just the ones that aren’t stevia & monkfruit?
