Skin issues and constipation

I’ve now been on a ketogenic diet for 4.5 months. I’ve lots 17 pounds and my blood sugar is good. And best of all much less carb cravings. And my energy is better, less ups and downs.

I have these symptoms, though, that I never had before. 1) Skin - cracking at the corners of my mouth, flaking skin on my scalp, rashes in underarm area. Using Aloe, MCT oil on skin, but doesn’t help. 2) Constipation. I take lots of sprouted flax, chia and acacia powders, extra magnesium, aloe, probiotics, MCT oil…but still my bowels don’t seem to like this diet. Elimination is very small each day. Tips? Ideas?

How’s your salt? 5000mg supplement salt recommended by Dr Phinney. Constipation is often due to not enough salt.

All nuts, seeds, probiotics, dairy, and any type of fiber, cause me to have constipation. My remedy for constipation is very low-to-zero fiber, avoidance of dairy, nuts and seeds, lots of fat and moderate protein, and adequate salt. Works like a charm.

I had to try three types of magnesium and different doses to find the right one. My dr, who is keto friendly, told me not to worry when keto and IF even if I only go every 3 or 4 days as long as there is no pain or difficulty. The lower amount of carbage/garbage certainly leads to less output​:grin::grin:

Lmao… al those links you provided described me from time to time BEFORE I went Keto. Same with constipation. I know had had issues with BM’s when I ate a lot of lean meet. My opinion it was very dense, and would often cause mild impactions.

I’ve always had a couple of places the itch incessantly. One spot on my back, one on the side of my nose, and one on the side of my head. The one on my scalp tends to have large flakes of skin come off if I scratch slow enough. Scratch too fast and it looks like it’s snowing :no_mouth:.

The corners of my mouth seemed to have healed completely now. It had been a problem for a few years, sure, Keto can take the credit, but I have no idea what it was. I just assumed a drooled a lot at night or something.

Something I have noticed, I don’t seem to be getting yeast infections anymore. I would regularly get mild ones in my armpits as well as another area that doesn’t get much sunshine🙊. But since Keto I never feel it coming on anymore. Could be previously I was just so sweet that the yeast really had a feast on me. Just needed a damp location and some broken skin, BOOM.

Try taking 2 tablespoons oder Carlson’s Cod Liver oil daily. I take it in the morning with a swiggle of water. I do take lots of vitamins in addition.

@rosariaambra I’m also 4 months in, everything good except the armpit rash and some dry skin around my mouth, please let me know if you find something that works.
