Challenge them to weight loss duel!!
K
Ha! Got that one hands down, she’s lost 9.5lbs since Feb and that’s with her hitting the gym 5 days a week and being misrable / hating what she’s eating, I’ve lost a wee bit more (maybe 2stone more) whilst loving what am eating.
Not public. My dear wife put a bit of stuff on Facebook but I don’t think it’s accessible to everyone.
Have been asked for CDs for years, just never did try to record.
Shame, I love good piano & jazz, if you ever decide to go public am sure many here would love it hear you.
Not sure if this is relevant but…it is hard resisting carbs when you’re starting. I realized after a few weeks that it wasn’t so much the “yummy” foods I was craving, but more the things I was used to eating. The fries with the burger. Heck, the BUN with the burger. The popcorn in the evening watching tv. I was used to these things. It was habit, and comfortable, but not much more than that.
Fast forward a year and a half to the present. After my Dr declared me no longer diabetic, my hubby and I stopped for burgers. I hadn’t had a French fry in a looong time, and they smelled good. I stole one from my husband. It tasted…blech. Mushy, bland, absolutely nasty.
Several weeks later, we are at an Indian restaurant that made some of the most beautiful naan I’ve ever seen. Again, I took a bite. Tasteless. I guess I’ve really lost my taste for these kind of things.
(I tried once more with a tortilla chip. Ok, that was dumb. Yep, the tortilla chip still tasted pretty darn amazing. DON’T DO THIS!)
But other than that, pretty cool!
If you’re going to be putting money on the duel, though, do a water fast. Seven days probably won’t kill you, but it will probably win.
Just tell her that no, you don’t miss the inflammation, pain, weight gain, and sugar comas that carbs give you.
But you do LOVE eating and tasting real food – and how much healthier you feel now, and also HOW MUCH weight you’ve lost eating this way.
That should shut her up.
So…one of my work sites has a group of people doing a weight loss challenge. They did not invite me to participate. Then yesterday, I found out they are all ‘eating keto’ for this challenge. Saw what they had for lunch yesterday and today. Just smiled and walked away. Several starchy veggies, hardly any fat, talking about staying ‘under’ in calories. I’m pretty sure we all know where this is going…
And yes! Saboteurs are everywhere! Stay strong, my keto friends!
I don’t think your manager’s reactions are a dig at you. She is probably amazed at how well you’re doing and feels like she’d like to do that too, but is afraid to give up her carbs. I remember feeling like I could never give up x. She doesn’t know how to have a discussion with you about it, and may actually think you are judging her for her choices. This is a time of compassion on your part, because you know you’re doing the healthy thing, but others can’t always get onboard. We can only sit by and be patient until they come to the realization on their own, just like we did.
Oh I remember well just how much I struggled thinking I can’t give up carbs, am not judging her & hope she doesn’t think I am, only talk about it if she instigates it, if she wants to try will be more than happy to help but until then I just KCKO and don’t care about the ribbing I get from her & other collegues.
Some people have a deep deep misunderstanding of keto. I walked into the pharmacy the other day and when of the techs was speaking to the pharmacist said " you don’t do that stupid keto crap do you" she said no. I said I do that stupid keto crap. Tell me what’s so stupid about it. No one ever has a correct answer for that question. I usually end up telling them read some good resources about it. Keto is meat, veggies, eggs, butter, avacado, some cheese and some nuts. What’s so crazy about that? Never had any good answers to that question either
To be fair, the whole fat makes you fat is so engrained in our culture that most people never get beyond that noise.
Regrettably, I used to be one of those people, so if a die-hard low fat gal like me can change, there’s hope yet.
There comes a point where you slowly realise Carbs arn’t actually tasty, they are the stuff we wrap around the tasty stuff to keep our hands clean, or the stuff we mix with the tasty stuff to bulk it out… put some flour or straight sugar in your mouth… mmm tasty… why have chocolate cake when you can have dark chocolate and thickened cream? Nop I don’t miss it and I presume there is a point where every Ketoer can say “ew, that isn’t even food no wonder it made me sick”
But also before I did Keto, I thought this way too, first I couldn’t live without bread, then I couldn’t live without fruit ect ect, you don’t know till you know. She is battling with the concept that everything she knows about food is wrong, a hard pill to swallow indeed. Hopefully she will end up trying it.
Every time one of my friends said something to me about my “diet” I always replied “I eat meat & veggies”, period. It’s a difficult line to argue with.
Back in the mid-90’s I had smashing success losing weight on Jenny Craig. They held weekly “lifestyle” info sessions to help us on our weight loss. One session stood out. While pimping promoting non-fat milk, they showed an 8 ounce glass of milk and a knife, upon which sat 2 tablespoon patty of butter. The voice-over admonished us; “the whole milk has two whole tablespoons more fat than the non-fat milk. Which is better for you?”
Now when I think back to that presentation, I think, “Mmmm… butter.”
That said, there is another Jenny Craig take-away that I still find as helpful. “Nothing tastes as good, as thin feels.” When I battle some poorly-placed and freely-available baked goods, this mantra is rather helpful.
Oh, that smashing weight-loss? I lost 100 pounds in 4 months. While the weight-loss numbers are great, I was frail, gaunt, tired, my hands were always cold. It was a lousy feeling for a man in his early 30’s. After I stopped eating their food, I gained all that weight back, and then some, over the next 2 years.
Poorly paraphrased from John Lennon; “Instant carbage’s gonna get you"
Yeah - I find that some carbs are really hard to resist. But I had some cookies the other day just because they were left sitting around…and honestly, agree with your comments, just not that great…
Now I am looking at making a cheesecake later this week…really looking forward to it though!
And for those pushing food - I heard someone say to just tell them “I am allergic” - which technically you are - and it gets many less comments or arguments than any other response.
