Show me the bad science?

I’m so irritated with my hospital right now. They just published this article, written by a dietician, discouraging people from using the Ketogenic diet. It’s full of fear mongering and misinformation.

Sounds like someone who has something to gain from putting people on the Mediterranean diet.

I would admit that there may be other ways of eating that may be healthy. But some of the implications are misleading. The mention of two pounds of bacon a day seemed a little much. I don’t eat that much meat, ever. I doubt many of the people here do either. And they talk as though none of us eat any vegetables at all. Many of us eat quite a lot of vegetables. And they also talk as though we’re only going to pick the worst possible fat sources we can and completely gorge on them. Actually, the fat sources they mention as being the good ones, fish, avocado, olive oil, are actually my go-to fats anyway.

If it were a live presentation, I would love to hear some of the rebuttals that would be forthcoming from a few knowledgeable people about the ketogenic way of eating. But alas, it’s a publication from someone with some “letters” after their name so they’re a “god” in the eyes of many, many readers.

My concern exactly. If they only knew how many people have improved their health from Keto just in their own Cardiothoracic Surgery office!

I have encouraged all the wonderful Keto people I know to give feedback on this article explaining how a Ketogenic way of eating has positively affected their health and quality of life.

Interestingly, my wife works at Spectrum and learned about this WOE from a co-worker. They are not all like this.

Interesting. I wonder where they got their “FACTS”? They don’t cite anything.

That’s not ketogenic in the clinical sense, which limits carbs to as few as 10 grams a day. ???

“You’re not getting your B vitamins, (REALLY??? LOL) you’re not getting vitamin C (plentiful in rare liver and not needed as much when not inflammed), you’re not getting fiber in your diet (I guess all the green leafies and above ground veggies have no fibre???), and all these things are needed.” Eliminating carbs may also throw off your electrolytes, like sodium, potassium and magnesium (For the better!).

But a diet high in saturated fat increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. (Boy, I guess they only read their own publications.)

Most of these people don’t know that the Mediterranean diet is not low fat. And even the link for the Mediterranean Diet mentions “Studies”, but doesn’t link to anything.

OY! Science???

NOPE! They are selling a class.

So there were tons of wonderful responses published to the comments section of the article. A rebuttal from someone seems to say…well, what the dietician was meaning to say was do this more “well rounded safer” diet instead. Um…

Haha! The comments after the article are excellent!

Here is another…OMG we are all dead

I think you win the award for finding the absolute worst BS I have ever read. There are mistakes on every page. I do not even know where to begin

You’re right, they are the only good part of that article :joy:

Please make it stop

He’s big on eating unprocessed plant food, and he’s notorious for cherry-picking information to try and support his position.

Now I know why all of humanity died out during the paleolithic. They ate too much paleo.

Oh wait . . .

Greger’s a vegan evangelist and his site might be the most ironically named thing on the internet. He doesn’t just cherry-pick studies and information, he actively misrepresents what studies say knowing that most people won’t check.

I suppose I could give him the benefit of the doubt and simply say he has a “blind spot” and bias to see what he wants to see, but it’s a little too consistent a pattern. I think it’s animal rights activism masquerading as nutrition information.

There’s no benefit of the doubt needed, he’s actively profiting off vegan propaganda he spews. His “documentary style” videos are nothing but cherrypicked data and outright lies with poor narration added for flavor.
