Hello all again! I’ve been doing keto for about three weeks now and I’m definitely not having any issues with loosing weight. But I’m interested in starting to IF. It seems the most common in the 16/8. I’ve gotten the hang of staying under 20g of carbs but I’d like to make sure my body doesn’t get comfortable and I end up hitting a plateau. Also my job is very straining as I’m constantly walking, picking up patients, pulling them over, etc. So I don’t want to end up getting lightheaded either. Thanks in advance
Should I Start Intermittent Fasting?
How’s your hunger?
I added IF without really knowing what it was, after fat adaptation. I’m simply never hungry before noon to 4pm. Typically, I can eat or go 24-48 hours fasted on any given day.
If your hunger is diminishing, give it a go! 16-8 or 18-6 is doable once fat adaptation begins.
Edit: If my electrolytes are good, fasting does not give me light headedness.
Learning to differentiate between actual hunger and mental/emotional hunger has been…interesting, to say the least. I just wait. It’s amazing how some hunger simply disappears after 30 minutes.
I ate a very fatty breakfast this morning and I’m so full I’m pretty sure I’m not going to need to eat the rest of the day. So I’m assuming ill be able to just fast the rest of the time until tomorrow.
Another healthcare worker here! Yay! Some people find they need nutrition while working. So maybe try working your time restrictrd window around your schedule.
You will never know unless you try. Just remember about salt and electrolytes. Good luck
“Hello all again! I’ve been doing keto for about three weeks now”… well that’s such a short time, well done.
“I’ve gotten the hang of staying under 20g of carbs”…Such a big goal scored, main goal.
“But I’m interested in starting to IF. It seems the most common in the 16/8.” Yes that’s right, and you will see the benefits, go for it.
“Also my job is very straining as I’m constantly walking, picking up patients, pulling them over, etc. So I don’t want to end up getting lightheaded either.” Whatever else gets recommended by all the good people here, hit your protein marker. Good luck.
That’s very unlikely to happen in such a short period of time. However, you WILL hit one at some point. Early weight loss is usually just water weight as your body dumps glycogen, so it’ll slow down, for sure, after it’s done that.
IMHO, it’s important to keep yourself well-fuelled as your body learns to burn the new type of energy you’re throwing at it, especially in a physical job.
Experiment…listen to your body, if you feel really off then eat and try again later. Keep in mind you will feel some hunger but know that it comes in waves and it will go away if you keep your mind occupied. Being light headed is not necessarily due to not eating but more that your low on hydration/electrolytes.
My preference is to eat an early dinner and skip breakfast (20/4), during feasting time I eat enough to be full but not over full. Twice a week I do one meal only and on weekends I sometimes have that nice early breakfast but skip lunch. Its a long time habit and comfort moment, waking up to a nice Saturday morning bacon and eggs.
One mistake I made was over hydrating which flushed the electrolytes out, once I figured that out it became quite simple and easy and frankly normal.
