Does anyone have any tips on where to buy the best priced items, e.g., almond flour/meal, raw sauerkraut & pickles, kimchi etc in Brisbane or online in Australia? Everyday LCHF/Keto foods are easy to buy but for those special non mainstream items, where? I’m a one person household so buying in bulk is not an option
Shopping for LCHF/KETO food in Brisbane
Rachel Aust is a YouTuber who lives in Brisbane and who eats ketogenically. Maybe you can get tips by searching some of her lifestyle videos and/or reach out to her?
Hi Nolly, I am in Melbourne Australia but I do have some ideas.
These guys have foods you can buy online or in store. I searched and they have stores in Brisbane. In the shop you can purchase the amount you want, online it might be set volumes. This might be helpful if you are just cooking for one.
You could try Aldi? They have nuts in bigger bags(400-750g) and then also smaller selections (250g). They have very reasonably priced macadamias. I can’t remember if they have almond flour.
I recently bought a pack of almond flour/ meal in an IGA. I just compared the price per 100g or kg and decided it was reasonable. You can always compare the price per 100g in coles and wollies. The big supermarkets often have different sections with nuts. They have some in the baking section, healthfood section and sometimes the fruit and veg section.
With raw sauerkraut, pickles, kimchi in Melbourne I tend to find them in IGA’s in fancier areas, and specialist grocers. Another option is to try polish, korean or other specialist food stores- these might be less boutique and more reasonably priced although you probably want the non pasturised kind (when they have not heat treated to kill the bacteria etc).
I sometimes make my own. I use a recipe from Sarah Wilson’s Simplicious Cookbook. I find them easy recipes but I know not everyone wants the fuss or has the space to make them.
