Serious question...maybe messed up

(Heather Bryant) #1

I started Keto in June 27 (its July 4). I feel like I’ve been doing great! Keeping carbs below 15g daily and just a few days ago I discovered too much protein isn’t good and have been adjusting that as well to not consume too much.
I have even experienced Keto Flu symptoms so I’m sure I’m in KetoSis although I haven’t tested blood or urine.
Today…my husband surprised me with Chinese food when I woke up! I told him I didn’t want to eat it but he seemed a bit offended. It was beef and broccoli (the beef, broccoli, and carrots in that thick gravy/sauce). I only ate the beef and left everything else. I tried looking online for how many carbs were in that but found everything from 9 to 29g!!! Did I mess up everything I’ve done so far completely? How can I tell?!

Relax. One meal is not going to “mess up everything”. It might knock you out of ketosis for a while. It could be anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days. But if you get back into eating keto and don’t let one meal derail you you’ll be fine.

Keep calm and keto on.

Phew! That’s a relief to hear. Thank you!! Guess today may be a bit “messed up” but I’m going to treat it like any other and keep going like I have been.

The fact that you left most of it behind means you probably didn’t get many carbs overall. I’m sure once the husband sees what ketosis is doing for you he won’t “seem a bit offended” when you tell him it has too many carbs for you. My spouse never bats an eye when I mention carb counts of a food I’m refusing because in their eyes it’s “MORE FOR ME!” and I’ve been ketoing since the middle of December.

Keep calm and keto on.

Beef and broccoli are ok, the carrots and carby sauce are not.
You might have kicked yourself out of ketosis for a while but just keep calm and keto on and you’ll be back on track.
Don’t lose sleep over it. As @meganjramos says, the key is progress, not perfection.

Thanks everyone!!

Don’t stress, just get back on track.

Also for next time, you can request steamed beef and broccoli without sauce and use soy sauce or tamari to dip.

This is why my whole house is keto… well besides our cats…

Love it!! That’s my goal. My husband is a hard shell to crack though…
