Firstly thank you in advance to everyone who will help answer some questions. I would be lost without this forum.
I began strict Keto on 3/21/18, including tracking macros. I will be 52 in a few days. March to June I lost 12 pounds. Having tried everything under the sun before keto, I was happy at a steady 1 pound a week. What was more exciting was inches lost & the way I felt. I was working out 5 days a week, that in itself seemed easier to accomplish and not a chore. In July I went on a 3 week trip to see family abroad. I tried hard to be 100% strict like back home, and I did not track anything, but I did succumb to my mother’s cooking and included carbs back. Initially my stomach would hurt with the carbs. I didn’t work out even once. I was sure my monthly weigh in at the gym was going to be a shocker, and I promised not to chastise myself when it would have shown that either lost nothing or sadly went the other way. Can you image my shock when I weighed in 10 pounds lighter?
Now getting back to a strict keto lifestyle has been harder than when I first started. The lure to sneak an extra carb here and there is very strong. Please help me understand why I lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks and any guidance on what to do next. Shall I strive to get back to strict keto or is another option? I track macros on carb manager - it’s given me 2151 calories a day, I cannot even manage to eat 1800. Always less than that. I have my macros set to 80% Fat 15% Protein and 5% carbs . Thank you.

I’ve found my actual weight loss doesn’t really depend on what I ate yesterday–it lags behind for a week or so. So what I ate this week isn’t always reflected in the scale until next week. Working out really doesn’t have a big impact on weight loss, at least initially. Actually, when you first start working out, your muscle hold onto a lot of water, to heal themselves. Maybe you dropped some of that. Or maybe what your mom cooks is pretty healthy!
One thing I wouldn’t do is expect those results to continue at home. Of course it’s harder to get back on, your body is running on carbs rather than fat again.
