Scale and non scale victories

#1

So I went to the Dr. on Friday morning. When I started intermittent fasting in January I weighed over 400 lbs. I’m not sure how much over, because once I hit 400 lbs I started avoiding scales like the plague. I’m pretty sure it was near 415 if not even more. In March I added keto into my internittent fasting regimen. It’s now the beginning of August, and my weight is down to 355! That’s with being on beta blockers for the last month and a half (beta blockers are known to cause weight gain).

As far as non-scale victories, I’m back down to 3xl shirts and I need new jeans desperately. I’ve had to drill new holes in my belt twice. And when I say twice, I mean I started at the third hole, then when the last hole wasn’t enough to keep my pants up, and I had to walk around all day holding my pants up, I broke down and drilled another hole. Then when that hole was doing the same thing I broke down and drilled another one.

You are doing great!!!

Are there any nice thrift shops or Goodwill stores near you? As you shrink you can donate your old clothes (and belt!) and find smaller ones real cheap.

I’ve found designer clothes at Goodwill with the original store tags still attached! Not common, but I’ve bought some myself. And their regular stuff they put out for sale is generally in good condition.

Once I found a real nice jacket with a button missing so they knocked a few bucks off the price. I didn’t like the buttons and was going to change them out anyway, so a win for me!

There is actually a Goodwill and several thrift stores in my town. I just have to make special plans to go since I work the night shift.

Yeah, I’m sure the last thing you want to do after getting off nights is to go try on clothes.

But a great way to stretch your budget until you have lost all your weight. And MUCH more fun than gaining weight and needing bigger clothes!!!

It’s not that I mind doing things after work, it’s that most businesses that keep normal hours close around my bedtime. For instance in the morning I’m taking my car in for an alignment and to get some new tires balanced. The shop opens at nine, but my usual bedtime is ten! I get off work at six, so I have to go home, kill time for a couple hours, then when I’d normally start winding down and getting ready for bed, I have to go run errands.

Oh I know. I was married to a shift worker for years and my eldest son is also a shift worker. But they rotate from days to nights which is harder on the body but easier to get errands run.

But when they are on nights they are home in bed by the time businesses open.

Pharmacist here – just a note about beta-blockers. Beta-blockers prevent fat loss and will also prevent HDL from increasing.

Thanks for your concern, but I’m well aware of that. I have mentioned it in the first post. Despite the beta blocker I’m still losing weight. While beta blockers are known to inhibit weight loss overall, they do increase atrial natriuretic hormone, which is one of the few hormones that can override insulin and trigger lipolysis. I hae wondered if that’s part of why my weight loss hasn’t really stalled despite their reputation.

If there was something else on the $4 list I could take I’d ask my doc about it. I tried Lisinopril, but I got the cough something fierce.
