Hi guys,

I’m 47 and from Cheshire in the UK and I started the Keto WOE in September to lose weight with the main goal of lowering my blood pressure, currently 133/86 (although has been as high as 160/98).

So I’m now 10 weeks in and I have so far lost 5Kg without exercise, dropped a waist size, greatly reduced my Asthma symptoms, I’m sleeping all through the night (was previously waking every few hours) and I’m now not going for a pee every 30 minutes (a symptom of my kidneys flushing excess sugar I believe?). I’m really enjoying eating real food again after years of low-fat options. I never really appreciated just how much sugar was in what I was eating and what effect it had on my body.

I heard about the 2 keto dudes podcast on the DotNetRocks podcast which I listen to regularly as I’m software developer. After listening to the first 20 episodes the argument for Keto was compelling and I got started and have not ate carbage since.

On the down-side, my wife regularly complains about my keto breath, which I have noticed was significantly worse this week after doing my first IF. I know that’s a good thing for my weight loss as it generally means I’m burning fat, but I’d welcome any hints that anyone could give me on that.

I did get a very bad muscle spasm in my back in the second week of the diet, which was quickly sorted out with some physio and after supplementation with Magnesium & Potassium it has not recurred. After more research on the forum and other internet sources, I have also recently added Vitamin D3.

I am struggling with moderate constipation, despite excess of 2 litres of water and half a teaspoon of salt every day. I’m occasionally taking a laxative (Senokot) which is helping, but I don’t feel that’s a normal, real-food approach.

I have plateaued somewhat in the last few weeks, so trying 2 days of feasting (2200 - 2500 calories) followed by a 18:6 IF to try and shake things up a little and boost my metabolism.

My blood pressure appears to be coming down slowly, but as that is something that has taken literally decades to get out of control, I don’t expect miracles over-night. My main aim there is to avoid Statins and eventually get off the 100mg/day Losartan meds that I’m on now.

I made my first Fat Head Pizza last night, with almond flour base, the remains of which I’ve just chomped through for lunch. Pretty good for a first attempt and tasted great.

Fingers crossed for the weight loss and watch this space for updates!

Rob.

The keto breath could fade as you lose more weight.

For the constipation, perhaps more fiber? I’ve been eating those frozen microwaveable bags of broccoli and add cheese/butter/salt. It’s been helping out tremendously

You’re going to plateu, doesn’t mean your body stops changing. It’s as you said, it will take some time to undo the damage, but it is reversible. Keep it up!

The scale is a lying liar sitting on a throne of lies. Take some tape measurements and watch how pleasing they become!

Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forums! It sounds as though you are doing well.

Are you getting enough fat? I used to get constipated as a sugar burner, unless I had my diet balanced just right. Nowadays, all that fat seems to . . . “grease the skids,” so to speak, and things work on their own schedule. Probably best not to go into too many details . . .

My bladder capacity also seems to have tripled, and I can go a lot longer without feeling it necessary to relieve myself. This is a blessing at night; from childhood on, it has been a rare night that I didn’t have to get up at least once, often twice, and quite frequently three times.

On the other hand, although Mother Nature may not be calling as frequently as she used to be, I’ve learned that she can be pretty damned insistent when she wants!

Thanks for the replies gentlemen and all the good advice. I will work on incorporating those into what I’m doing.
