Salt intake when going back to carbs

(Ray ) #1

Hi,
Im going back to carbs (for now) due to too many stressors in my life, which makes being in keto difficult. However, I was in Keto on and off for almost three months.

Does anyone know how long it takes before the body goes back to being carb adapted in terms of gaining more water and salt in the body?
How long do I need to continue my salt intake to 5g/day, before I can reduce it to whats normal on carbs?

And is it normal to feel a bit weird and fatigued in the process?

Thanks for all replies!

My experience is 0 days. I was getting salt related cramps during a time when I had to go veggie at home for 4 weeks. Went on holiday and started on the carbs and had no cramps the whole week. Came back home, started meat and low carb again and started getting cramps which I resolved via a n=1 which I have documented.

A day at most.

I would think when your clothes get tight and when you feel puffy, bloated, sluggish, brain fog, hangry…

When you feel ready to go back to keto, if you do, I would suggest you really try to be committed to the process and lifestyle. Being on and off keto, you really aren’t experiencing the awesome benefits of this way of eating.

Best of luck to you

A humbly offered suggestion:
Forget about keto, macros, electrolytes, etc. Just try to eat real (minimally processed) food. And avoid emotional eating if you can. If diet is causing stress, it’s too complicated, keep it simple.
