Prof Grant is on the ball:
“We suggest that future salt surveys include the fasting triglyceride/HDL ratio, on the basis that this ratio is an inexpensive proxy to identify those individuals who have insulin resistance and are consuming a high-carbohydrate diet. If these conditions that promote hyperinsulinaemia and elevated post-prandial glycaemia are associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk via increased sodium retention, researchers will be a step closer to identifying the root cause of a pathology for which salt alone has historically borne an excessive share of the blame.”
