Round Two!

(Shar) #1

Hello everyone! So, this is my second go round with Keto. Did it last year around April (and posted here as well) and lasted about 6 weeks then slowly drifted off plan as Summer approached and I was hit with Anniversaries, Birthday’s, Pool Parties, insert other excuses. LOL I of course gained most of the weight back that I lost.

Today marks day 38. And so far I have lost a total of, I believe, 20.9 lbs (not too shabby). However, I have been laid up in bed for days with what appears to be the real flu or some other sort of nasty similar bug that has ran through our family. The first day of my sickness I did not eat. Barely even drank due to nausea. Day two I broke down and ate some Saltines and had some Diet Ginger Ale. Day three, more crackers and soda. Day 4 (yesterday), I was finally hungry and had my first cheat (cause I was craving it badly)…4 slices of white pizza!! Anyway, even with those few days of barely eating or drinking I didn’t even lose anything extra. Then of course after the pizza the scale is showing +3.5 lbs which I’m certain is just water and whatnot.

Anywho, before I got sick I had been stalled for about 12 days!! This far into the game I am, once again, down to 1 meal a day. Started off with doing breakfast and dinner but after a few weeks found myself less and less hungry and only, naturally, eating OMAD which is usually around 2/2:30 pm. So, my time goes something like fasting for 23 3/4 hours and my eating window is about 15 min. I also already cut out the Stevia in my morning cup of coffee. Don’t use any artificial sweeteners in anything else, don’t cheat whether diet drinks, alternative Keto approved treats, or otherwise. And yes, I keep my carbs to 20 TOTAL carbs. There has only been about 5 times that I went 5-10 grams over that.

I still have a good amount of weight to lose. About 130lbs. So I’m hoping things start to pick up here again soon. Not measuring ketones. I’m eating like I should be, making sure my electrolytes are good, etc. Not sure what else I can do. Don’t really eat much dairy so not sure what else I could cut if things don’t start moving again soon. I also have NOT lost any inches. Well wait, I “think” I lost about 6 inches off my hips in the beginning weeks. And I say THINK because I am down 6 inches from the last number I remember it being. Grant it that was last year when I did Keto so I cannot be 100% sure. Other than that, nothing.

I even did a few 48 hour fasts and that didn’t seem to move the scale either.

Other than high BP, Insulin Resistance, and PCOS, as if that’s not enough, lol, my blood work has always been good but for my A1c. That’s been around 6/6.1. But otherwise, nothing else seems out of whack so not sure why things are taking so long to get moving (since a lot of people seem to say well, if you have a lot wrong with you things could take longer to get going).

I also have to laugh when I think of shows like My 600 lb Life. At my rate Dr. Now would be pissed. LOL After all, he gives overweight people similar diet plans and expects them to lose like 30-50 lbs a month due to their size and new way of eating. And most do. Now I of course DO NOT weight that much but still, I would expect at least similar results since it seems like they eat similar to the way we do. I feel like I should be able to lose HALF that amount in one month as those people do. Wouldn’t you think? Just strange how that seems to work so well for them but not for (some of) us. LOL

Well I’ve gone on long enough. Just figured I’d give a quick update. It’s good to be back.

I’m a newbie so won’t give any advice - just encouragement. You can do this!!
And I love My 600lb Life so I had to laugh at the Dr. Now comment :grinning:

LOL Dr. Now is a trip. And, Hello! Yeah, guess I’m not really looking for advice. Just kinda giving an update of what’s been happening and my future hopes/wants. HAHA

Not how it works, unfortunately. The closer you are to your ideal weight, the slower your body will let go of its fat. Take two people, one weighs 400lbs, another 200lbs. Their ideal weight is 175lbs, all other variables are equal. Person A loses 30lbs in one month. Person B cannot expect to lose 15lbs at the same rate, even tho they weigh half of the other person, because metabolisms don’t work like simple mathematics. And when they get to that last 10lbs? Fuggeddaboudit.

True, I suppose.

Welcome back,

I was not interested in weight loss or anything to do with diets but I watched Dr Robert Lustig’s “The butter truth about sugar” that scared the hell out of me.

So rather than then getting frustrated at scales or dreaming about some keto benefits I was avoiding toxins like fructose and other carbs. When I’m in the supermarket people see boxes of treats I see toxin.

Just another angle on the entire thing.

But the benefits of keto are truly amazing: all that extra energy, better mental acuity, avoiding metabolic syndrome, oh yeah I lost a good amount of weight… I’ve got my life back.

Hi Shar, looks like you’re doing well so far. (Not too shabby at all.) Good luck this time around!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #8

You’re not the only one! :+1:

That video is largely responsible for my going keto.

So you’ve probably been told and know that if you approach keto as a “diet” and have “cheats” you’re only cheating yourself, not keto. It’s completely the opposite of your goals. Why not make a fathead pizza if you’re craving it so badly? What you did was going backwards into your body’s carb addiction. I didn’t help you or your goals for a healthier lifestyle. That’s what we are doing here, trying our best to take control and be the masters of our health. I agree with @Alex99 , when I see those foods I think “toxic” or as I recently read in an @PaulL post “Deathfood”. I like that perspective and it helps me to keep the course that I know is right. The goals are in reach if you are the boss of yourself.
