Rotisserie Chicken & Upset Stomach

(J) #1

Have any of you had stomach issues many hours after rotisserie chicken? Had it for lunch, and I have been nauseous since late last night. Feel like on the verge of throwing up, but nothing issues forth.

I’ve never bought a rotisserie chicken (smoke my own) but it sounds like it sat under the heat lamp too long and you have food posioning.

A nurse practitioner friend of mine says that there is no such thing as ā€œstomach flu,ā€ that what it is is food poisoning, and the symptoms are from the body’s efforts to rid itself of the toxins. She also believes strongly that food poisoning is a lot more common in the U.S. than people are aware of or want to admit.

The OP’s symptoms might not be from germs in the food, either. I have had digestive symptoms from eating a particular dish at a certain local restaurant, and I don’t believe my trouble was from any lack of cleanliness on the restaurant’s part, because I’ve eaten there many times with no problems. I suspect there is an ingredient in that particular dish that I’m reacting to.

I might also add that it had romaine lettuce as a wrapping vehicle.

So, then, don’t rule out food poisoning. A lot of lettuce in the U.S. gets contaminated with one or more Salmonella spp., not to mention Escherichia coli.

My thought was possibly a preservative of some sort…but now the Romaine is a pretty good source, too. Hope yoi feel better soon.
Side note: you could try Activated Charcoal capsules. They will absorb any toxins that may be there.

could be a ton of issues. not even chick related from ?

key being give it a day. ā€˜real food poisioning’ can send ya to the hospital easily but ā€˜off’ food or whatever got ya can give you a day of upset.

let us know how you do tomorrow…today is ick for ya, tomorrow tells that tale

I’m not sure I believe that. While technically the ā€œstomach fluā€ is not a ā€œfluā€ virus, it can be caused by a virus. For example, several years ago Chipotle was sued because an employee or employees spread norovirus to customers. Norovirus can be spread via food but also from person to person or from touching contaminated surfaces. So, not food poisoning.

Yeah, I tend to agree. But my friend is passionate on the topic, so I pass her thought along for what it’s worth.

Today I felt amazing! Ended up running 5 miles at lunch (42 hours fasted), and it was great. My mom is visiting so I took her out for steak tonight. I think this is prolly my first 48hr fast.

(J) #12

Weirdness. Felt great yesterday, but nausea has hit again around noon today. Must not be food poisoning, but I’ve also never heard of stomach issues picking up, leaving off, and picking back up again.

Hope you feel better soon

I had something like that, twice, from meals at a restaurant we frequent. The cause seems to be one particular dish, and since I’ve eaten there many times without ill effects, I can only conclude that I am sensitive to one of the ingredients in that particular dish. I’d love to know what it is.

(J) #15

My usual at this place from last night is ribeye with broccoli on the grill, with bacon and cheese. Been having it for forever. Would be surprised if it was the cause, but not out of the realm of possibility, I suppose.

Sometimes we’ll never find out what the heck happened. Makes me crazy, especially if I’m eating the same old stuff.
Could just be a bug of some sort.

(J) #17

Symptoms persist. A few hours after meals. Wondering if electrolyte/mineral deficiency. Trying to avoid antibiotic treatment from well-meaning doc.

But if it’s vitamin deficiency, why after 6 mos? Diet hasn’t changed.

(Edith) #18

It’s possible that over time your body drew down on whatever vitamin or minerals were stored and now the deficiency is starting to show.

Nope, I eat a lot of those from different places. Probably an isolated bad one, it’s just chicken ultimately. The 4x I’ve had food poisoning (I’m a pro at it) it’s always been chicken, but from Chinese places every time, not rotisserie.

But should the fallout still be occurring nearly a week out?
