Robert Cywes: The endorphine system how we regulate pleasure

hormones

Robert Cywes mentioned the need to regulate our endorphin system and that obese people primarily use carbohydrates to do this.

The endorphin system being the pleasure system.

He mentions that healthy people use a range of different methods to regulate their endorphin system. He talks about action oriented ways to activate the endorphin system.
He mentions:
guitar
walking
running
photography
a beer
church

With this he is implying / stating explicitly that carbohydrates are a drug.

What do you use?

Does this way of thinking resound with anyone?

Anyone know of science that speaks to this?

Dr. Robert Lustig wrote a book about how sugar acts like a drug and how that is exploited:

There is some research stating that carbohydrates are habit forming, just like other drugs. Some of those studies claim that carbs can be just as addicting or more addicting than cocaine. (I believe this is only one study that claims that…) That being said. There are many support groups for food addiction all around the world because they have found that the behaviors of food eating mirror that of other substance addiction. I have gone to some of these groups myself. Dr Vera Tarman has written a book called Food Junkies: The Truth About Food Addiction that explains the science behind it fairly well. there are other threads on this forum dedicated to food addiction as well that talk about the science in these cases. The basics of it is that carbs do stimulate the endorphin system and that can, in some individuals, cause an addictive response.
