Risk of Cardiovascular and All-Cause Mortality in Individuals With Diabetes Mellitus, Impaired Fasting Glucose, and Impaired Glucose Tolerance

Another paper showing that it’s not lipids (Bad cholesterol) that is responsible for Cardiovascular disease … it’s the Diabetes Stupid!

The MOney shot is this extract right here.

Impaired fasting glucose (HR 2.5, 95% CI 1.2 to 5.1) were independent predictors for CVD mortality … after controlling for lipid-lowering medication use, and total cholesterol:high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio.

In other words just having high glucose will increase your risk for heart disease 2.5 times higher than it is for someone with normal glucose no matter WHAT your cholesterol numbers are, or whether you take a statin.

The risk for having ACTUAL diabetes is (HR 2.6, 95% CI 1.4 to 4.7) shows that it doesn’t matter whether your doctor knows you have diabetes or not … the risk is virtually the same.

Wow. And the paper written in 2007. Geez. When will the establishment use this knowledge?

like a lot of papers where the outcome does not match the hypothesis they often shelve the paper… sad indeed…
