Started Keto in June after an A1C of 9!
My A1C is now 5.5! I’m still on 3 meds but no insulin. And I’m down 20lbs. Triglycerides are still a little high but down from 359… cholesterol is good.
Blood pressure is normal and stopped blood pressure medication.
I just wanted to celebrate with folks who would get it.
Results from Dr. Visit
2 months - 9 to 5.5 - FREAKING AMAZING!!! I thought I was a keto-stud going from 7.5 to 6.0 in 2 months.
When I got to 6.0 - I just threw out all my medications. Metformin, glimepiride, Lisinopril-HCTZ (BP), aspirin - everything. I carried tylenol/advil for a while, but no aches either, so those are gone too!
Cholesterol is good - I hope by that you mean it is not too low
TriG will come down. Mine went from 500s pre-keto to 139 last…
BP went from 135/85 on meds to 110/70 off meds.
A1C 5.5 WOOOOO HOOOOOO. After 2 months of no meds, my A1C went from 6.0 to 5.9 - so you may be ready to dump those meds too. dump metformin last.
Congratulations! And if you think these numbers are good, just wait another three or four months!
So during an informal/outside of work discussion with my Dr. She seems to credit all the weight loss and A1c drop to combination of meds. Not the fact that I drastically changed my diet… I didn’t tell her I was ketogenic just that I wasn’t eating sugar or refined carbs.
I thought about dropping meds one at a time following the guidelines for healthcare providers I found on I think the IDM site. But I really am scared of my blood sugars going back up. I went without the most expensive med for a couple of days and blood sugars we’re back up around 200. Haven’t seen any blood sugar under 100, most often between 120 and 140. With 3 diabetic meds. Metformin, Onglyza and Victoza
Will have a formal discussion with my Dr about her criteria for dropping meds. Although I did drop blood pressure meds without discussion. BP was consistently under 100 systolic.
What about talking to your doctor about weaning you. Having you reduce the dose every day that your BG is under 130 or something (no idea what the proper number is). Again talk to her about it
