Restaurants that use real butter

(Michael Hall) #1

Does anyone know of a list of restaurants that use real butter? I travel quite a bit for my job so I have to eat out. So far Red Lobster, Longhorn, and IHOP have told me they use real butter and it looks and tastes like it but always worried I am being lied to.

Outback claims to also, but I don’t really know.

We do know that Starbucks has Kerrygold butter. Sometimes I ask for some on the side when I get my coffee.

I imagine they do, particularly for the clarified butter for the crab and lobster. But you are right. They may not for other items.

This list might help for travel too:

Awesome, thank you

You could be a real keto-snob and bring your own butter. HAHAHA! :stuck_out_tongue:

I have thought of that. Im sure I would leave it in my pocket and it would all melt at some point.

Yeah and servers don’t always know either… I find that lots of people don’t even know there is a difference… when I was little, we always had those huge tubs of country crock… That was butter as far as I knew… we used cheap margarine up till we went keto… Now I think back and it makes me gag…

Though I still go cheap and buy the cheapest store brand butter… from whichever store is on sale…

I have gotten to the point where I only eat what i make unless i know and trust the cook (like my wife).

You eat out or at others people houses they dont think twice about throwing sugar or flow in things that can throw you.

I worry about that when I go out too. Happened when I when out to Granite City the other day. I didn’t ask the waiter if it was real. Maybe I will next time.

But it’s not like soybean and/or canola oil will knock you out of ketosis

NOPE. Just make me puke. Lol. It’s been so long since I’ve eaten margarine I can SMELL the difference. It smells like rancid oil.

Wait.

I tell them I’m allergic to all grain and to cancel my order if they don’t use butter. AND … just a reminder to remember to tell IHOP to leave out the pancake batter if you order an omelette.

You have every reason to be concerned because what a waitress tells you and what the kitchen is actually purchasing is often times two totally different things. Besides, there’s money to be made in confusion!

Wait. What? Pancake batter?

(Candy Lind) #18

Yep! Makes them fluffier. IHOP was the first one I heard of, but I understand others do it; always ask if unfamiliar with the place.

A few months ago when traveling for work I ended up at IHOP for a late night dinner. Normally I try to find a steakhouse, but nothing was open near the hotel. I ordered an omelette figuring that would be safe. I felt sick the next morning and couldn’t figure out why, now I know.

Wow! Thank you for sharing. I had no idea.
