Research into the Whoosh Effect

We all talk about the whoosh effect here. I’ve even experienced it myself. I’m curious about the mechanics behind it. I’ve never really seen anything other than anecdotal stories and theories. Does anyone have references to peer reviewed articles related to water retention/release in adipose tissue?

This is the only thing I’ve found and it only relates to retention, not the “whoosh”.

5 day water fast dropped 3kg before ending fast, tried eating a big Keto meal a few hrs after breaking fast. I read a big meal can provide a whoosh effect.

It doesn’t appear that I had any whoosh effect

I just did a three day fast but loaded up on fat fat fat before I started…lots of bullet proof coffee in my 1l thermos and I had generous amounts of butter, heavy cream and coconut oil in it…well it was more like watery coffee flavoured oil mix. Then I managed to go almost three days with just water and lemon juice. Man, I’ve been peeing like a racehorse and 'am 6lbs down in the last two days…this feels like a whoosh!
