Recurrent infection on keto

#1

Hello, I’ve been doing keto for approximately 6 months, with a couple of weeks of pause after 3 months and again now after 6 months. I’ve been having great results overall, but there’s a problem that keeps coming up.
Almost every month, I develop a kind of inflammation/open wound/infection inside one of the nostrils. I’ve been to the doctor, she said it was a simple infection and gave me antibiotics, it got cured but reappeared after 1 month.
I made the connection with keto when I realised it all started after going off carbs. Every time I have periods I eat very few carbs (I’m usually under 50 grams of net carbs per day but sometimes I get lower) or every time I have restarted eating keto after small periods of eating carbs, the infection reappears.
It’s inside either or both of my nostrils, lasts for a week and it hurts really bad, my nose becomes very inflamed.
I can’t understand why is this happening while I’m having the healthiest life style ever. Any ideas?

Could it be connected to the carbs rather than keto? Maybe some sort of intolerance that needs to detox once you’re back on keto properly?

Maybe worth staying on keto rather than going back to carbs to see if it stays away?

Serrapeptase will take care of it! Just take a tab when it comes on and watch it disappear! You will forget it was even their!

Lack of mucus production (lack of carbs) is what’s causing it, body needs to push out the infection!

Same thing happened to me! In exactly the details you described as quoted above!

You need some resistant starch (for mucosal production) in your diet, I eat a green banana (not a ripe one) to help with this! So far it has not returned when I include the banana on a ketogenic diet!

Dairy foods like cheese, cottage, yogurt and milk should help but for some reason it does not work without the resistant starch (in me at least), not sure why that is? I eat lots of cheese but hate milk unless it is straight from the cow or goat (not treated with anti-biotics or hormones) raw!

Oh weird - I have had this on and off. Only in a minor way. I don’t think it could be connected. I’ve been off / on keto.

Bunny, you’ve talked about this before, but I don’t know if you ever mentioned how often you eat a green banana.

Once a week?
Twice a month?
Once a month?

Hi… wow, I have the exact same problem!!! But I have a septum piercing, so I totally presumed that it was my piercing which is causing trouble… I never thought it could be connected to keto… and looking back, I got it the first time after about two weeks keto. Went on a short holiday last week and ate carbs over carbs over carbs, cocktails, sticky toffee pudding, fries - you name it… and went “cold turkey” into keto on d day we returned - two days later the same infection started again, this time in my other nostril!! Fiercely sore, especially when touching d tip of my nose, but I got an over the counter antibiotic and anti fungal cream especially for inside the nose, which clears it well… just for how long… so, an unripe banana, is it? How often would you eat that?

Once week or sometimes when I think the gut bugs are starving …lol
