Recommended Greens Powder

(MelissaH) #1

I was thinking about adding a green drink everyday for micronutrients. Anyone have one they’d recommend?

(Lonnie Hedley) #2

Liver. Wait, what was the question?

(MelissaH) #3

@hedleylo liver??? What? Lol who said anything about liver?

(Lonnie Hedley) #4

Sorry, I just saw the “micronutrients” part of your question. Nothing better than liver. Beef in particular seems to be very high in micronutrients.

(MelissaH) #5

Lol oh okay I see what you meant now! I wish I was that advanced. I’ve never tried it. I’ve heard of beef liver capsules.

Sorry to have hijacked your thread. I have no suggestions on greens powders…other than they’re probably not necessary. Before cutting out veggies I would have huge spinach and kale salads. Tasted great, but my gut did not agree with my mouth. I’m of the belief that the few nutrients that you get from veggies might not be that beneficial.

(MelissaH) #7

@hedleylo I agree with you on that!! I’ve read that dark eyes are a sign of nutrient deficiency? I’ve never had bags, circles, etc. Two months on keto and it looks like my eyes are sinking into my head! Not cute😑

Green Surge

Greens pak

Super greens

(MelissaH) #9

Thanks! Have you personally tried any of these?

(Bee ) #10

Not yet😔. But I’ve done alot of searching around and have narrowed it down to those. I’ll be getting one soon.

Of the three suggested by @FutureKetoKnockout, only the Nested Super Greens is available at Amazon.ca. It looks okay, but expensive.

I bought the Webber Naturals All Greens Superfood at Costco because it was cheap. In addition to the greens, crucifers, herbs, etc., it also has healthy fruity stuff such as acai and blueberry, plus fruit flavors and sweetener. I hate the sweet fruitiness! If I’m going to drink green powder I want it to taste like green stuff.

When I finally use up what I have, I think I’ll just buy spirulina and chlorella and combine them. (Supposedly a 2:1 ratio is best, e.g., 10 g spirulina to 5 g chlorella.) Fishy taste but tolerable, and between the two of them you get lots of good nutrients.

@hedleylo, I’ll also think about liver. I guess my local beef farmer can sell me some.

I was going to use a powdered green drink mix and also add spirulina, Chlorella, angstrom magnesium, trace minerals, and matcha green tea. U think that’s over kill?

(MelissaH) #13

@FutureKetoKnockout It might cause some digestive issues… yesterday I added a scope of spirulina to my ketoaid and it tasted fine. Right now I have deva electrolyte powder. I won’t be reordering. Still on the hunt😊
How do you like the angstrom magnetism?

(MelissaH) #14

@hedleylo would you recommend a beef liver supplement if I can’t get ahold of grassfed liver where I live?

(Lonnie Hedley) #15

The only supplement I take is a combo calcium (because of minimum dairy), magnesium (somewhat difficult to get from diet, everyone should supplement Mg a little), and Vitamin D.

Otherwise my nutrients mainly come from ground beef and eggs. Other than feeling sore after yoga (and this cold from the change in weather), I feel the best I ever have. I don’t think chasing micronutrients would/could make me feel better. This is my N=1 though. If micronutrients are important to you, liver seems to be the best way to get an abundance. If you want to eat 7-10 cups of veggies as suggested by Dr. Berg, you might get them too, but that seems a bit excessive. I think the idea of greens powder is to get 7-10 cups of veggie micronutrients in just a couple scoops. I’m more inclined to think my body does best on animal products and didn’t evolve to eat 7-10 cups of greens a day. Your N=1 may differ from mine.

(MelissaH) #16

Thanks @hedleylo Ahh yes, I remember your pics from the "what did you keto today"now🤣 you do love your ground beef and eggs!! I supplement with electrolytes. I feel fine. Just noticing some changes in my eyes and I read it might be a nutrient deficiency. I look tired all the time and feel like my eyes are sinking into my head.

(Bee ) #17

Haven’t gotten that yet either😓. But I’m building my collection slowly. Right now I’m finishing off some powdered magnesium I have. And I’m taking liquid chlorophyll, b12, vitamin d3. And some reishi mushroom powder in my coffee.

(Laurie) #18

I think it’s fine. I was going to add spirulina and chlorella to the greens I currently have, but I think I’ll wait until I run out. In the meantime, I do take lots of supplements.

I think some of this stuff really can help. I was taking liquid chlorophyll for another reason (internal deodorant), and I was surprised to find that I felt so much better–just healthier. I didn’t even know it was supposed to have that effect. So I’m kind of sold on it. Eventually I might give up the green stuff, but not yet!

I did quite a bit of research on magnesium lately, and I bought some magnesium bisglycinate to replace the magnesium citrate I’ve been taking. I didn’t know about angstrom magnesium.

(MelissaH) #19

@islandlight how long did you take for you to feel the effects of the chlorophyll? And how did you feel better? I’ve put spirulina in the ketoaid the past 2 days.

(Laurie) #20

I’m not sure how long. It was a few years ago. I think maybe a week or two. My health seemed fine before I took the chlorophyll, but after taking it I felt less draggy physically, more alert, etc.
