Hi guys/gals. What is your general feel for recipes that have ranch or gravy packets (or other such ingredients)? Another good example would be recipes that call for condensed soups like cream of mushroom soup. Do you stear totally lear of such recipes? Up to this point i have but i have a found a few recipes with such ingredients that look really good. Granted per serving such ingredients are going to add THAT much carbs but if you read the labels the have ingredients like modified food starch.
Recipes with ingredients Ranch/Gravy Packets?
Personally, I’m eating as clean as possible, so if I’m going to the bother of making a “fancy” meal, I’ll use real ingredients. Otherwise I just stick with simple things that don’t require a complicated sauce.
ETA: I wouldn’t use cream of mushroom soup because almost all of them have a lot of carbs - rice flour, mainly. But I did find a recipe for keto COM soup that sounds good, so if I were in a really culinary mood, I might make a batch of that and freeze the rest for later. (of course it might be the rice flour and xantham gum and all the other goop that makes ordinary COM a magic ingredient in which case this wouldn’t work at all, but I’ll bet it would be a tasty experiment!
I agree with @kib. Most of those prepacket things almost always contain starch of some sort. Starch is what adds the body to those soups/gravies/sauces. You can make your own just as easily by using real and really good ingredients like cream cheese, eggs, butter etc. etc. It’s worth the effort IMHO.
Thanks ladies @JustPeachy @kib. I was hoping but i was thinking i shouldn’t go there. Some of these recipes actually looked really good but probably better to lean towards the paleo side of keto (for lack of better terminology).
