Really Want to Lose 10 lbs in the Next Week, Best Way?

#1

Been Keto since April. Lost a substantial amount of weight and 4.5 dress sizes which is the problem, that .5

Already do IF and EF (up to 5.5 days) and added exercise about a month ago, mostly slow burn and some swimming and biking/elliptical. Part of the problem is that if I swim I am starving and cannot stick to a fast of any length. Without swimming I have no problems fasting.

What is my best strategy at this point? I have a huge event at the end of next week and I still do not have a dress. The .5 is the problem. I am at the cusp of plus and regular so that neither fits me well. The plus is all too big in the shoulders and the regular size is a little too tight in the belly. Same with the sizes, one size up is too big and the next size is too small, by a hair. I do not sew and do not have time to get anything altered and I am otherwise very average so I never get anything altered and do not plan to start. H who is a less common size gets everything altered so he keeps telling me I should get a good tailor

I would like to lose 10 lbs by next week. I recently broke a stall that had been going on since September. I was able to lose about 4 lbs over the last 2 weeks. I don’t care about the number, I want the clothes to fit and I want to look good.

I started a fast yesterday and it is ok so far. Lately I have not been as inclined to fast and I am much quicker to give up on them. Then when I do I am not happy the minute I start eating again. Not sure whether to go 5 days or stop earlier. I tend not to exercise when fasting because of the increased hunger. With slow burn you only have to do it once a week so that is not a problem. I would like to swim but know it will make me ravenous. Lately I have been losing the .5 per day fasting or even less so even if I go 5 days I doubt it will get me where I need to be.

Also, any ideas why I am not eager to fast anymore? I have at least another 40 lbs to lose to get to my Phinney weight

Your body will do what it will do - you have done so good thinking long term. I would do a fat fast to counter for hunger and being cold.

One word… Spanx. Have you tried any with your dresses? They do smooth lumps and bumps. Just a suggestion.

All our lives we were led to believe that losing weight was all about eating less and move around more. Turns out calories in and calories out just don’t matter. When a guy who eats 1500 calories a day, turns around and eats 5,000 calories a day, and doesn’t gain weight, then there is something fishy about the whole eat less calories thing. Sure it sounds legit on the surface, but it doesn’t jive with the facts. The body finds its norm. That doesn’t mean you can’t lose weight, it just take a different approach than eating less and exercise. Exercise matters very little.

As it turns out, your body will adapt to the amount of food you eat, to try to maintain your weight we’re it is. If you eat less, your body reacts by slowing down your metabolism. If you eat more, your body increases it’s metabolism.

I suppose the trick is to get it to increase its metabolism, and the fast. Ah… and make sure insulin stays very low. Protein can cause insulin to increase. Insulin blocks fat from being burnt. So while it’s present, you just can’t lose weight. That’s why all those diets are so hard to maintain. They all work on CICO and not minimizing insulin.

I would surmise that anything that prevents insulin from being produced, or removes it from your blood, should help with weight loss. I think the best way to achieve this is with intermittent fasting.

If you can’t handle the longer fasts, then just do the short ones. Before I found this site, I didn’t consider one meal a day fasting. I didn’t consider overnight a fast either. But I realize now where it hats coming from.

Try eating only breakfast. Make it a good one. ZERO CARBS to keep insulin from spiking. Just enough protein, and lots of extra fat. Do it up. Have a feast. Make the meal within a time window of only a few hours, like from 6 am to 10 am. Eat nothing else outside that window. I do a two hour window myself. I eat just one meal a day, and I’m never, ever hungry.

If on fasting you feel hungry, try a pinch of salt under your tongue. It’s probably not hunger you feel, but your body letting you know your electrolytes are low. It feels somewhat like being seasick or car sick. That trick works for me every time, and usually lasts a couple of hours.

I’m sure their are others that will have much more useful tips, so keep an eye for them. Try a search of these forums too. I think the 2 Keto dudes podcast covered losing weight as well, probably where I got my info.

Keep calm and… we’ll, you know the rest :cowboy_hat_face:

not sure that works me and my lyrca ha ha

Ha! ShapeWear is a girls best friend!

(ianrobo) #7

ha ha maybe it is just sports wear then !

For the short-term, I would second Sophie’s shapewear/Spanx suggestion. It’s relatively quick and inexpensive and gives a lovely countour and shape while minimizing inches in strategic spots.

For the longer-term: I think that our bodies have cycles (not just menstrual cycles) that we can’t always see or understand. Some times fasting is perfect and we do it happily and easily, other times not so much - maybe when your body is settling at its new size and and consolidating/cleaning up in ways that you can’t really see but that are necessary for the next stage of things. I think that finding a good path is a mix of researching - which you’ve done, and you have so many great tools! - and finding the best strategy that genuinely works for you at various times.

Yeah, there’s a reason all those dudes in the under armor ads look like central casting at a superhero movie.

Heck I wear under armor compression Ts habitually and Mrs Dipper always jokes that I’m wearing my Spanx today.

Thank you. Its a great suggestion. I love spanx. I will buy a pair a size smaller but the ones that I have are not enough. It is really more that I am between sizes and between plus and regular

#11

Interestingly I have done a couple of fat fasts. In September I did one and it was the easiest thing ever and I lost just as much as in a water fast (my version is coffee with HWC and water and salt). Then I did another one about a month ago and really had trouble finding food I wanted to eat and sticking to under 1000 calories a day. I lost a little but it was mostly to correct a minor indulgence rather than true weight loss

Who wouldn’t want to lose10#a week???

Doubt that is going to happen for you. Spandex will help. Try a different style fashion, some are more flattering for changing figures. Good luck on sorting it out.

Congratulations on your amazing weight loss!

I get what you’re saying about not just being in-between sizes, but in-between Plus and Regular. The Plus size clothes really are cut differently than the Regular.

Agreeging with Spanx, but also agree with your husband and his tailoring idea. But, it might be too late. Can you try running one Plus dress to the seamstress today to see if their turnaround would be quick enough for the party?

@Madeleine is right, our bodies work in cycles. What’s the chance your weight loss cycle is ready to dump 10 lbs in time for the party? Eh, probably slim chance. It doesn’t care about the party. It’s just doing stuff behind the scenes that may not show up on the scale or your waist measurement in time for the party.

Why stress yourself out? Stress that seamstress out with your rush order! Haha. I’d try the tailor this ONE time. But do it quickly.

Then, continue on with your weight loss and swimming and slow burn, that all appears to be working beautifully for you. Next Christmas, you’ll be well settled into the Regular size racks and probably deciding between a 6 or an 8 for this same event.

OK, you want to lose 10 lbs in 7 days. The sure fire way to do that is a water fast. It’s that simple. Just don’t eat until you reach your desired weight.

Of course, you’re likely to regain most of it back (a lot of it is water) when you refeed, but you’ll achieve your objective. And sometimes that’s all that matters.

(Adam Kirby) #15

Use some bodybuilder protocol for getting lean as possible right before a competition. It basically comes down to tricking your system into dumping a massive amount of water.

#16

FWIW, depending on your facial structure, dropping a lot of water weight all at once might leave you kind of gaunt around the eyes. Personally, I think looking a little bit rounder and radiant is better, but it really depends on your physiology and how your body responds to a fast right now and of course your own personal preferences.

#17

Something to consider but my face looks better thinner, I have high cheekbones so the hollows are a bonus

#18

This is kind of a once in a lifetime event (had some others a few years ago and at the last one I was about 35 - 40 lbs heavier) people are flying in from all. I am hosting. It will never come again but the focus is not on how I look and I know that. Still it would be a bonus if I could be a normal size. I think that is what is driving me nuts, I am so close but not quite at normal

While I am about 40 lbs from Phinney weight, I can say that I am close to normal because I never look my weight. As I result I never tell people my real weight

(Sophie) #19

It sounds like we are about the same build. I’m big boned and have always carried my weight well. People don’t believe me when I tell them my actual weight either. I stalled out on the cusp of plus size to misses and that’s when I started keto. It’s a pain when you’re in the middle like that. I suggest trying the misses sizes first with the new spanx. Mfg’s are making misses sizes larger and larger these days because of vanity sizing. Try several different labels and styles. You might just surprise yourself. Oh, and black is always flattering as well as asymmetric lines and form fitting. Good luck!

(Heather Miller) #20

Keep looking. The right dress is out there for you. Maybe it is a second hand dress someone else has altered. Maybe it is a style you have never thought to try that is a bit loser in those trouble spots. Maybe it is a skirt and top to have two different sizes. Most important is to remember how far you have come! If your new dress ends up being a bit lose everyone will notice and you can say you are a work I progress.

This is a journey, enjoy every step!
