Realized something VERY strange?

#1

About a week ago, I noticed something that was no longer happening & I can’t believe I didn’t notice it?

Ever since I can remember and as far back as I can recall, I’ve always had an issue that whenever I would eat something, and I do mean anything! It could have been a hotdog, sandwich, or even just crackers! it didn’t matter! - But within a few moments after finishing eating, I would start having a sneezing fit. Sometimes it was only 3 or 4 times, but sometimes 10 or more! … This happened 95% of the time and It drove me @&#% crazy!

Over the years I tried to cut out certain items, to see if it was something specific I was eating. Thought maybe I was allergic to certain foods, seasonings, etc. But no matter what I tried, it still happened! - Spoke with doctors who said they could probably do a boat load of testing, but that even then, they might not be able to pin it down without some very extensive testing? … So, I just never did anything else about it…

But as I said, it suddenly hit me a couple days ago, that I can’t recall the last time I had a sneezing fit, or even just sneezed after a meal? :astonished: … BELIEVE ME! I’m in no way complaining!!! My wife was a bit thrown back when I mentioned it, because she hadn’t taken notice either? But now I think I’m even more confused?

…And, NO, I don’t think I was allergic to carbs!!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: - Sorry, I could just see that one coming! But I was wondering if anyone else experienced this, or happened to notice a similar change after going Keto?

Thanks…

Apperently sneezing from being full is a thing:

I knew about photic sternuation (sneezing triggered by sunlight), but not the other things mentioned in this article. I am occasionally triggered to sneeze simply by thinking about sneezing, by the way, so thank you. Thanks so very much! :grinning: :grinning: :grinning:

So seriously, it makes sense that if you are eating to satiety and not to a full belly, that would remove the stimulus for post-prandial sneezing. :bacon:

Keto causes reduced inflammation. It’s possible that your adenoids have been inflamed your whole life and keto released some of that retained fluid. Keto works all over our body.

Thank’s for the link, Paul. I will definitely be checking it out as soon as I have a few moments! And yes, I also have photic sneeze reflex as well. I was aware of that though, ever since I was young. (My Mom had it too) I wore shades most the time, even indoors. I’ve always been sensitive to bright lights, and get to sneezing anytime I look at anything illuminated. I remember way back when I would go to the dentist, I would always tell them to not let the light get in my eyes! And when they did, I would go into sneezing fits and they would have to wait til it passed. They now keep dark shades in their office for customer use, and have for quite some time.

Thank you Michelle, and very good point. … I’ve always had bad sinuses too, but have noticed that I also don’t seem to be stuffed up all the time as well. (And not to be too graphic) But, I did noticed that shortly after starting Keto that when I would cough, I tended to bring up more phlegm/congestion, and this seemed to go on for a few weeks. But now I seem to breath much better through my nasal passage, and don’t cough up phlegm as much either. And I really see this when I don’t have issues while mowing grass. I may get a little bothered, but nothing like I did before.

Thank you, Ma’am.

Also wanted to mention that my sleep has seemed to have improved a lot as well. A few weeks back, I was telling my wife that I think I slept on my back all night, and she said that I did. Said she had noticed me doing that for a while now. … Let me just say this is a complete rarity for me. I’ve always slept on my side, or sometimes I would wake on my stomach, which usually caused back stiffness sometimes. And I also constantly moved around at lot at night. Which doesn’t seem to be the case presently!

You’re not alone… My wife has had a dry coughing episode every single morning (only in the morning) for the last (at least) 15 years that I know. She attributed it to having some lung issue when she was a child, so we just accepted it as the way it is.
She started Keto about 2 months ago, and just in the last 2-3 weeks her cough has magically disappeared.

Is this a Keto coincidence??? I think not. Whatever it is…Thank you!

That’s fantastic, Garry! Glad to hear that, and agree, it must be the WOE with Keto. - My wife V, @DoggieMom does the same thing, and though she has been doing this for many years as well, the past couple years It’s gotten pretty bad. And for her, not only the in the mornings. She can go into coughing fits at any time during the day, and she’s even passed out a few times from this, so I’m really hoping Keto helps her with this too. (Quite scary!) … I told her it was probably due to a lack of oxygen when this happens since her face goes blood red almost instantly. She can’t seem to get enough air in and she can go into some uncontrollable coughing fits. - We’ve spoken with a few doctors about this, and they agreed it was lack of oxygen and said that is exactly what happens.

(She also just started Keto a little over a week ago, so I’m hoping it helps her too) … She’s been doing breathing treatments for years now, and has the machine that she does like 20 minute treatments, a few times a day. (Sorry, can’t remember the name of the machine? Maybe she will pop by and name it.) But she also has 2 or 3 of the breathing inhalers, which I believe one Albuterol? But she also has bronchitis, asthma, etc. So yep, I’m hoping.

Right on, Garry. :slightly_smiling_face: Very believable to me that lower inflammation levels are at work.

…very similar to histamine intolerance

”…Two enzymes are responsible for breaking down histamine. They are DAO (diamine oxidase) and HNMT (histamine-N-methyl-transferase). When these enzymes aren’t working like they should—or if we are genetically wired (MTHFR?) to have underactive enzymes—we begin to show signs of histamine intolerance. …”…More

We’re sending you guys our best wishes! Fingers crossed it helps her.

That’s very much appreciated sir! … Hopefully we will get to report some good news back on it soon!
Thanks again.

Thanks kindly, @atomicspacebunny - I will surely look into the information you provided. Always good to know how things work, to help identify what the issues could be.

YW! I Wonder those expensive tests you mentioned would reveal? DNA SNP’s?

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #15

Dave, has V been checked for asthma? Some of my asthma attacks start as uncontrollable coughing fits. (Well, they’re not completely uncontrollable, of course, or I’d never be able to use the rescue inhaler, but you know what I mean.)

On Sunday, a very bad allergy day in the Hudson valley, I had my very first asthma attack since the early days of keto, a year-and-a-half ago. Most days my allergies are minimal, and sometimes I even forget to take my antihistamine and decongestant. That is a significant improvement over the old days, let me tell you!

@atomicspacebunny I’m not sure? This was probably 20 or so years ago when I remember discussing this, but in the end decided not to fool with it. But If I recall correctly, I believe it was mentioned that it would be similar to an allergen test? (I’ve never had one of those either, so not familiar)

@PaulL - Yes sir, I forgot to mention it, but she does indeed have asthma, as well as Chronic Bronchitis. She sometimes will just start coughing in her sleep, while watching TV, whenever, and I will get to her as soon as I hear her start. Sometimes I need to help her sit up or get off the couch, because she’s coughing so bad, she gets weak and kind of goes limp. And we’ve discussed this, especially after the last time I took her to the hospital, after finding her on the living room floor. She had passing out and hit her head on the corner of the door-jam to the closet when she fell. (Had a good sized egg form real quick too, and with her history of blood clots, she got quite worried) - She said she stopped and leaned over behind the chair to catch her breath, and then just remembers me picking her up off the floor. - I told her she should always drop down quickly to the floor and lean on the chair, couch, or ottoman till it passes. But also to make sure she’s facing the floor and not on her back, in case she gets sick, which does happen maybe half the time.

Ya’know, since @DoggieMom is actually home all day, and I know that she’s been reading up on Keto on this forum, it would sure be nice if she would just chime in, because she could tell her history better than me.

I can get something related with olive oil. If I eat that stuff to sateity (250g+), I get some sort of light itching at the root of my mouth and a “furry” feeling there… sometimes this can expand to my nose and tickle my nerves resulting in a sneeze or two. Really strange!

And you’ve been married just how long? And you expect to stay married?

Just figured if I call her out, she might respond. … and to answer your question, together just over 35 years and married 32 this coming December. Been together since 1983

Well, it sounds like you at least know what causes it for you, which is good. … I used to sneeze after just eating, and it didn’t seem to matter what it was I was eating.
