Real Food Science

(ianrobo) #1

A lovely doc here from PBS, just showing facts of food, why we cook and how we taste etc.

It shows to me how much we are influence by advertising than our own senses now and how food is manipulated.

(Meeping up the Science!) #2

Smell is actually one of the strongest stimuli, neurologically, particularly for memory. When you consider that most of taste is smell, it’s a rather remarkable mechanism to manipulate, no?

Fun fact: your nose has neurons in the back exposed to air - the only neurons that ever touch it in your lifetime! Well, hopefully no other neurons ever have to be exposed to air! They constantly regenerate, though.

Some of the more distant, but very related, research.
