Ravenous

My partner and I have been following a ketogenic diet since Dec 2018. We are fairly strict, having a planned “cheat meal” less than once a month. This past Sunday we were at a wedding. It was a Pig Pickin’. We passed up all the potato salads and bread, but did partake of some baked beans and a glass of home made lemonade. Afterwards we went right back to our Keto ways.Today my partner was very hungry.

My theory is that since he is still insulin resistant, he was definitely kicked out of ketosis. He had very little glucose or glycogen on board and possibly has a hard time getting back into ketosis, therefore he was very hungry. Does that make sense?

Four months is way too early to have a cheat meal. It took me a year to become (I think) fat adapted (still not sure if I am) . You will find, after a year, that carbs do not taste as good as you remembered them. I have found that even cheese kicks me out of ketosis.

We have been very careful. He has lost almost 70 lbs and I have lost 25. always go right back to Keto.

There are lots of possible reasons and interpretations of that. My advice is to satisfy the hunger with good keto foods, and KCKO! Keto obviously suits him if he has lost 70lbs!!

Yes, it suits us both. He got some salami and cheese. I think he did the right thing.

It was either a 2KetoDudes or Obesity Code podcast that mentions your hunger on any given day is a direct result/response to what you ate the night before. It maybe messed with blood sugar, insulin, or just triggered cravings…baked beans are very high in carbs and possibly sugar depending on the sauce and lemonade (even homemade) contains a lot sugar unless made with less than usual intentionally. For me sticking to Keto 100% keeps me from craving cheat foods/meals and is the best appetite control :face_with_monocle:

After a period of abstinence, reactions to sugary foods vary from person to person. From what I’ve observed in what others have posted here, I’ve noted that this sometimes unlocks cravings and hunger. In other instances, the reintroduction of sugar maybe upset a person’s stomach since their gut bacteria is no longer good at processing it (this happened to me)

From an ancestral point of view, I think that his body is sensing an opportunity to replenish lost fat over what it perceives as a long and hard winter. The sugary foods represent a bounty of in season fruits and his body is saying “Hey, let’s take advantage of this and reload our glycogen and store as much as we can as fat while the going is good.”.

That’s why I think it’s important to make the right response to his hunger by going back to feeding it LCHF foods… to tell his body that the harvest is over and to calm down about it.

Hungry? More fatty foods seems to do the trick!

No restrictions just eat until satiated when hungry then start cutting back again.

Bacon, sausage, eggs, avocado etc…

Mmmmm!

Broiled Breakfast in Avocado…lol

The more weight I lose the more sensitive to carbs I seem to be, in the sense that when I started I could eat cheese galore (of course has v little carbs) and veg galore (could easily eat an entire bag of frozen veg per day or head of cabbage or three big peppers at a sitting) and still dropped weight like mad and felt awesome.

I’ve recently made posts here about how after nearly two years of strict keto, no cheats not one, and much weight loss (am 116lb) I stalled and needed to eliminate both cheese (this pained me to do ) AND veg as apparently the amount of carbs in these I could no longer efficiently deal with.

I went from a months long stall at 122 to 118 now 116, fast. Also manifested several new “nsvs”: better sleep, perfect BMs (sorry), even BETTER mood, craving elimination (used to eat 16oz cheese per DAY and STILL wanted MORE :cheese:) and decreased appetite.

I know you didn’t mention a stall but thought my data may somehow be germane to your case in that even the one episode of carb ingestion may mess you guys up more than formerly. If I was formerly able to consume large amts of cheese and veg without seeming detriment then they became detrimental, you can imagine what the high carb beans and sugar in the lemonade may’ve done to you guys.

Some of us cannot tolerate even a wee amt of carbs without issues arising and for me this worsened with time.
