I wanted to correct something I initially said and also compare it to something I heard from Carl and Richard on the podcast. I am very proud of the fact in 6 months on Keto my Triglycerides are down from 197 to 72, and because I have taken up walking 3 miles a day my "good cholesterol is up to 42 from 32. I heard on the podcast that a good predicter of heart disease is the ratio of HDL to Triglycerides. It is good if this ration is under 2, mine is 1.715 and used to 6.1. So if all this is true and I have it right, WOW, another stunning victory for “KETO”!!!

Ratio of HDL to Tryglycerides
My high triglycerides (209) are the reason I started keto six months ago. I am having blood drawn in a month. Your post makes me so hopeful. This is the first time in my life they have been abnormal, so want to nip this in the bud before things get out of hand. And, congratulations!
I just saw on another thread that Siobhan Huggins from www.cholesterolcode.com (Dave Feldman’s site) was saying that trigs and HDL are proving more variable than had previously been thought, so that she and Dave look for more general indications of levels. This was in response to my posting the same thing you just posted about getting the ratio under 2.0. I’d say that since this is still the current science (until Siobhan and Dave publish their results in a peer-reviewed journal), that it is still cause for rejoicing. So don’t let me rain on your parade—but since Siobhan made a point of mentioning it, I thought it my duty to pass it on. She and Dave are the experts, after all.
Myself, I am beginning to wonder whether we should be paying much attention to our cholesterol levels at all. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.
I don’t think we should pay attention to them. My TG/HDL ratio has varied from 1.05 (normal fasting of 12 hours) to 4.36 (4.5 days fasting). If I take out the two highest readings, both caused by getting the test done 4.5 days into a fast, mine are:
3.05 (6 months after starting low carb)
2.45
1.25
2.72
1.05
1.13
The 2.72 and 1.05 were taken TWO WEEKS apart. That’s how variable these can be.
