Raise your hand if you've never gotten an energy boost on keto

(Aimee Moisa) #1

I hear a lot of comments about awesome energy while on keto but no one but the newbies talk much about no energy boost.

I would like to hear from those who have been on keto a while, getting benefits from it, just not that crazy superman feel I hear talk of. I am trying to figure out if it is rare or common.

This is for scientific curiosity only. I know I am too early in my keto voyage to expect any energy boost.

It’s real. Usually happens soon after becoming fat adapted.

I will tentatively raise my hand. I got a pretty significant energy drop when I started keto, and now my energy is back to normal, maybe a little higher than I started but not anything to write home about. I’m about 10 weeks in, so maybe this will continue to improve.

I’m 5 months in and feeling like I need a nap every afternoon. @rustyk61 may be right and I may be one of those super-slow fat adapters. Anyway, no, I’ve never had an energy boost.

My energy isn’t so much a high but more endurance. I can run longer before becoming tired.
Also my mood is more consistently upbeat, so that mimics more energy I believe.
I’ve had periodic issues with depression. I’ve found on Keto that my moods are much more positive, but even when I have a down day it isn’t really drepressed. It’s more mellow than dark. The energy certainly isn’t there on these days, but it’s actually a pleasant feeling. Just chill I guess, which does not come natural for me, so I rather like it.

No. Never got an energy boost, but never got a decrease either. Never got keto flu. Never struggled with gym… but I was sugar free and my diet was clean already before randomly drifting into keto so there wasn’t as much adaptation needed for me I guess. The only thing that held me back at the beginning was the massive amount of stress I was under at the time but I’ve always had the feeling that keto actually helped me get through that crap.

I felt tired the first two weeks, but was back to normal at week three. I am now starting week nine. Did not eat sugar before, probably around 150 carbs, but felt good before and feel the same now. No Superman burst, as of yet…

Raises paw!

Lower sugar, higher fat diet certainly enhances the benefits of meditation.

Feel way more connected to the substratum or source of thought before it becomes conscious i.e. superconsciousness, mind bending stuff lol

I think what I’ve noticed after a year eating this way is that my energy levels are WAY more consistent. I can go all day long at a steady state and don’t have any lulls, especially in the afternoon. I have also found that even when I don’t get enough sleep for some reason, it does not affect me nearly as much as lack of sleep used to affect me. As far as an energy burst? Nope.

Oh, and getting enough sleep these days means almost seven hours a night. I used to get and need more than that.

I have been Keto for nine months now with 74 lbs lost and no energy boost. I have more spring in my step not carrying the weight of a small child on my body anymore, but seriously, so energy boost and no mental clarity. I also feel like I need a nap an hour or two after I eat, even if it’s just a snack. Regardless, I still love Keto and find it the perfect WOE for me.

I’ve been keto for a little over 5 weeks now. I’m more tired now than I was when I started keto. I have noticed some other benefits but energy isn’t one of them.

About 12 weeks in myself, haven’t felt the WHOOSH or vast amounts of energy. But I am not sitting on my bum as much as I was before, more things are getting done. But I don’t as yet feel an abundance of energy that some report - maybe I need to do more fasting!!

(Rach) #14

I’m over 2 months in and I don’t feel any of the benefits that people talk about. So close to giving up!

(Allie) #15

2 month’s is no time at all.

I’m 7 weeks in and I have amazing energy, especially during my workouts everyday. The only thing I have noticed is that the two times I’ve tried to work out fasted, working out first thing in the morning before I’ve had my BPC, I had low energy. It was difficult for me to get through a 30 minute workout. I’m not sure if that’s a fluke because maybe I wasn’t fat adapted at the time or it was lack of caffeine. Other than that, I rarely yawn in the middle of the day, I don’t feel tired all the time like I used to and I get up between 5:30 and 6:30 am every day, even on the weekends.

A lot of what I have read says it takes up to 3 month before you really start to feel the effects of keto. Some people take longer than others.

I’ve been on Keto a year now with my husband. I’ve had a massive energy boost, a giant change in mood, and while I wouldn’t call it mental clarity, my mind just feels different in a nice way. My husband, on the other hand had zero change in any of these areas. He feels exactly the same as pre keto minus the pound loss, although he doesn’t nap anymore and he used to all the time.

This anecdote seems to sum up the difficulty in comparing the various n=1 versions of ‘energy boost.’ Saying one feels the same but has given up regular napping says more energy to me? As I ready through the thread, I read various terms for what could be labeled energy boost including ‘more consistent mood’ and ‘not yawning’ and being more productive in one way or another.

There’s also the difficulty in comparing where we are mentally, how in tune we are with our bodies. For those with significant weight to lose, there is a probability of being disconnected emotionally from our bodies…such as the person who ignored or soothed emotions with food…that inhibits one’s ability to feel truly connected to their physical self. The body may actually feel energized and the signal difficult to pick up cognitively.

My own experience has been that it took EF to feel that energy boost, to get more in touch with my physical body. My n=1 is only 9 weeks along, and I’ll be attentive to developments of energy boosts as I continue on.

It took me over two months to get fat adapted.
