Question regarding gluconeogenesis & insulin

(Linda) #1

I, among several others who have posted, often have my highest BG readings in the mornings before I have eaten. Mostly on this basis, the doctors had diagnosed me with at different times with either T2 or at least Prediabetes.

I’ve been keto for 2 years, but my fasting readings are always over a hundred. Before keto, they were often over 120.

Does the body release insulin to deal with the glucose it created itself?

I’m not worried about a FBG of 108 or so, since it always drops after eating, but this question intrigues me and I can’t figure out what to say to google to get an answer.

Does anybody know or have a reasonable guess?

I knew about the dawn thing already. That second link, however, answered my questions perfectly. Thanks!

It was certainly correct that I am very insulin sensitive now after a couple of years of keto.

Eating a small amount of protein or very few carbs (like a healthy dose of HWC) takes my readings down to the 80s and 90s.

Pretty good for someone like me with a lifetime of insulin resistance!

Thanks againl.

Also if you get your A1C measured that can tell you about your daily average responses to glucose and insulin. I’ve been keto for 3 years (with some slips) and for the last 3 weeks very low carb consumption. My fasting BG can be as high as 133. My A1C bounces between 5.3 and 5.4. I’ll get more blood work in late September.

I haven’t had an a1c for awhile, but last time it was 5.3. That was about 1 year into keto. I check with a glucose meter frequently, and it’s never high after the morning, so I don’t feel the need to check that again since I have been doing well healthwise. Doctors give me a pain.

What’s the matter with you? Don’t you know that keto is unsustainable and will kill you? So some time in the past three years you must have given up on that way of eating and then died! :grinning:  :grinning:  :grinning:

Seriously, keep ketoing on, brother! :bacon::bacon:
