Question about electrolytes

(Ye boi) #1

Hi, I was wondering something. I know that electrolytes are very important when adapting to keto, but do I need to make sure to keep them up even after I’ve adapted or is just when starting out? Thanks.

Also, I know this is probably a dumb question but does keto lower your blood sugars to a very low level? I heard that low blood sugars is very unhealthy, can someone explain this to me please.

Finally, does anyone have any vegetable or low sugar fruit recommendations? I currently eat carrots, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, onions, kale, a good bit of mixed berries and an avocado I also eat about 2 cloves of garlic a day and sometimes a bit of lemon juice. All this is just under 50g carbs.

As said in this episode (Salt Fix), less insulin means less reabsorption of salt through the kidneys, you’ll continue to need more salt than a more insulinogenic diet. How much depends on your body, you’ll have to experiment to find your optimal intake.

No, your body will maintain glucose homeostasis through gluconeogenesis, meaning it will create the glucose it needs and maintain the desired level. As you do not have insulin spikes with Keto, your blood sugar will be far more stable than before. You can easily test this with a glucometer, it should show a healthy mostly flat line where It would have shown a rollercoaster with the SAD.

50g is high, you might make your adaptation harder than sticking to 20g, fat-adapt and then adjust to some more carbs.

Thank you

I would lose the carrots, lemon juice, and berries at least until you’re adapted as 50g carbs is too high, under 20g is ideal.

I still supplement electrolytes over two years into keto.

@Shortstuff Thanks, I’d like to know, I’m not looking to lose weight, actually gain weight, and I’m pretty sure I have a very good metabolism, would having a good metabolism mean I can have more carbs on keto?

What do you want to gain fat or muscle ?

To gain muscle you would need to do resistance training at a gym.

To put on fat in keto is actually impossible if you have good metabolism. You would need to yourself silly. I have a good metabolism and found it impossible to put on fat.

Everyone’s carb tolerance is different so when you’re adapted and totally used to being keto, best way is to experiment for yourself to find your own tolerance.
