Question about blood sugar and fasting

#1

I have normal blood sugar levels normally ranging from 68-72 upon wakening, when I was eating moderate carb aip it ran from 72-82.

I am currently fasting (just at 42 hours). This morning my bg level was 59, I drank some black coffee and went out for an hour and a half walk. I came back in and tested my bgl at the 2 hour mark. Much to my surprise my bgl was up to 70. What gives? Is it possible for coffee to raise bg?

This makes me question whether my experiment with monk fruit last week was a result of the monk fruit or the coffee. I didn’t test black coffee I just tested upon wakening and then after coffee with monk fruit… so many questions. About to test a little swerve in a cup of coffee and see what happens.

My Dad also claims that coffee raises his blood sugar by about 10 pts. Yes, black black coffee.

I wouldn’t sweat it, 70 is damn low. It’s not hurting anything, in your case.

Also at your current fasting point your liver may be generating glucose via gluconeogenesis so your walk may have spurred some additional glucose be created. Nothing to worry about.

Caffeine can increase cortisol levels on its own, which may give a bump in blood glucose. Helps if you’re a regular user :coffee:

Ahhhh. I’m on the morning of day 4 of a 5 day fast, both myself and my wife are doing it together. It’s helping. Last night I was not hungry but I so wanted to eat.
I will break my fast tomorrow evening. It’s really interesting the desire to eat right now, and it’s not a physical need, it’s a mental one. This is my longest fast ever.
I have been reading about blood sugar levels while fasting, and wondering why you don’t have a hypo when it’s low. A carb burning diabetic would. Found a thread elsewhere where a type 1 diabetic said Keto gives him safety as his blood sugar can drop but he gets no loss of brain function, and he can adjust his insulin to accommodate.
I’m not diabetic (doing Keto for all of the other Heath reasons, and love not having to live from meal to meal unless I choose to)
Almost there!
