Prawns...how to determine macros

Hello Ketoland,

So i bought a bag of Argentinean extra large raw prawns. Now… the back of the package says,

60 calories per 1/4 cup(100 grams)

So i weighed my prawns after the shells were off and peeled and then cooked. The bag yielded
200 grams. So therefore it should be 120 calories for the bag right?

But now i am wondering if that was 100grams with shell on and frozen, raw. Should i have measured it that way instead?

I have 2.6 grams carbs for 6oz or 170grams cooked and shelled. Don’t have a clue about calories because…keto!

thats weird! Mine says 0 Carbs for a serving!

Ok so that number comes from an Atkins Carb pdf

I looked just with google and it was .6g per 100 gram serving.

And yours says 0 carb so confusing huh? I have always assumed there were a few, most shellfish have some I think. Some are high like squid.

really?? squid?? like plain unbreaded squid? weird…

They are rounding down. In elementary school we learn that anything above .51 gets rounded to 1. But food companies and the powers that regulate them believe it’s acceptable to round .9 down to zero…

Squid is not terribly high but plan for it if you want some, 6 oz or 170 grams steamed or fried without breading has 6.4 carbs. I love it enough that I will do some as a treat one of these days. I like it finely scored and quickly blancched then thrown into a spicy stir fry like Kung Paò.

If you can trust this it’s a great pdf with lots of foods listed, like 22 pages in catagories. I find it very useful on occasion when shopping or considering ingredients or adapting non keto recipes. :cowboy_hat_face:
