Pork Rinds - Am I over doing it?

(Ernesto Llorente) #1

Good morning Guys!

I eat a bag of pork Rinds per day because I find it easier to get my fat Kcals this way. However my wife says that this is too much. I eat my bacon and egg in the morning, but dont have time for lunch so I eat a bag of pork rinds through out the day with raw veggies. When I get home I eat my dinner and thats it. Sometimes I have a premier protein shake along with the pork rinds and veggies. Does any one else eat pork rinds all day? I eat about 3 to 4 servings per day. Thanks!

I could easily eat a bag a day, I think that is 540kcal of fat.

No problem here either. Can easily eat a medium bag full.

How does the deep fry process affect the nutrition of the pork rinds?

I don’t usually eat a bag per day- but have been known to eat a HALF bag at one sitting. Just yesterday I ate 1/2 bag and used my homemade mayo to dip them in. I think that was about 1/2 c. Of mayo at least. Was pretty proud of all the fat I ate yesterday - as I don’t think I normally eat enough. Am trying something new- focusing on eating fat (& maybe a little protein.) my keystones were higher than normal yesterday too! 1.3 - normal for me is around .8. :grinning:

Hmmm…well pork rinds are deep fried in lard so, one serving (9 pieces) is 80 Kcal, 5 g of fat (2.5 saturated fat).

Awesome Lueloff! Thanks for sharing.

I think the only real caveat with pork rinds is the protein. Apparently the protein in them is somehow “incomplete”, and the nutrition information shows a high protein value when in actuality it’s not really usable. As a result, a lot of labels will show a positive protein value yet still say it’s “Not a significant source of protein”.

But for fat? Hey, go to town.

I think of pork rinds as a convenience/junk food though probably one of the better if not best junk foods you could eat. Still you might do better to mix things up a bit, quality sausages, hard boiled eggs, can of sardines, cheeses and nuts - lots of fairly convenient options.

So many are cooked In cheap rancid oils that make me feel nauseous unfortunately. It’s a shame. Pig skin that I’ve cooked myself - there’s nothing quite like it
